there's a lot to say, and not much time.  well, maybe.  there might be a lot of time.  who knows?  certainly not i...

lil dude update:

my beloved is the size of a house.  no.  seriously.  hear me out.  i have collected up photos from the run of this pregnancy (starting with her in a dress that makes her look HELLA HAWT) and running through, well, this weekend.  it's quite an impressive change.  (linkage later if i get unlazy).  she's miserable, bulky and hates hearing "you're almost there!"  there is not a damned thing i can do to ease her suffering or improve her mood.  my job is to be sure she has food and water.  beyond that, i'm pretty fucking useless.  and i feel it.  but i washed clothes and blankets for him.  i've put things together as best i know how.  i hope he'll be happy with us.

heat:

it's hot.  really hot.  this time last year was when i really started to get "home sick."  it's happening again.  i reserved the right to bitch and whine about the weather from june through august when i moved down here and i am exercising that right as loudly and frequently as i can.  my flavorice intake is through the roof.  my stepmother is having the same issues as this is her first summer south of dayton, ohio.  nordic folk like yours truly don't fare well in this shit.  the dog and i are both pretty sick of it and we're waiting for the temperature to drop by about 10 degrees so we can at least breathe again.

family:

1.  i met one of stacky's okie cousins this weekend, so i have to admit that they do exist and her dad isn't a one-off government experiment.  he's a good guy, very funny.  i should be meeting his sister this evening as she said she wanted to visit the great one before the arrival of the dude.  we'll see how that goes.  it'll be nice to have someone around to keep my beloved company during the long, boring hours on the couch.

2.  my dad and stepmother stopped by this weekend.  we had a good visit for an hour or two and then they were on their way.  it's been nice to have them drop in.  they aren't intrusive and are fun to have around.  it's a foreign feeling, but a good one.

3.  my grandmother turned 84 last week and she's still going strong.  she's talking about getting on a plane for the first time in her life to come visit the lil dude.  it's likely the only thing that could get her on a plane.  this woman is tougher than nails and i love her for it.  she had 7 kids and buried 5 of them.  her husband died when she was 49 and she got up, got her driver's license and took a factory job to put her sons through college.  she still gets out and cleans up her yard every day.  i'll write about her someday.  she's an incredible old bird, that one.

music:

there's some on the way.  i've been noodling and that's about it.  not much time at my disposal and when i do have time, i lack focus.  but i guess the point is that i'm doing something which is better than the alternative of doing nothing.

misc:

i need a vacation that i'm not going to get.  i'd like to have my wife back ASAP.  that's pretty much it.

Don't feel homesick. It's no better up here. Trust me.

Houston is on the coast by ks1178 (4.00 / 2) #4 Mon Aug 13, 2007 at 12:33:30 PM EST
And is just as humid or more humid than pretty much any place in the Midwest or East Coast. With the added bonus of 115 degree weather.

My brother has lived in all sorts of wierd places (From the the Artic Circle, Nevada Desert (middle of nowhere desert at that, not just Vegas or Reno) Arizona, Indonesia, and some Desert in Mongolia that would either be super hot, or buried in snow depending on time of year.

His least favorite place because of weather was the 3 months he spent in Houston during the summer.

Th only place I've been to that was worse by greyrat (4.00 / 1) #5 Mon Aug 13, 2007 at 02:04:23 PM EST
than Houston was Dhahran, Saudi Arabia where, I'd point out it's supposed to be 110F today. But only 30% humidity, so it's not too bad...

It is better up there by theboz (2.00 / 0) #6 Mon Aug 13, 2007 at 02:35:38 PM EST
I forget where you live, but I don't think your weather is in the 100's with all the humidity that goes along with it. Hopefully we get a thunderstorm today due to the humidity that can knock a few degrees off and take us back down to the relatively cold upper 90's.

HAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!! by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #8 Mon Aug 13, 2007 at 03:04:00 PM EST
Here in STL we got our T-storms last night. That knocked the nighttime temps all the way down to 79F and the high today all the way down to 99F. Tomorrow and Wednesday will be 102F, just like the last few days. So yes, we will have been essentially in the 100s for two weeks by this Friday.

Pregnancy + High temperatures by Phage (4.00 / 1) #2 Mon Aug 13, 2007 at 11:25:37 AM EST
Is no fun at all.
Also, I doubt you're useless. It just feels that way.

That's one of the reasons we have the mantra: at least we're not in Houston.  San Antonio is pretty ugly, too...more heat, slightly less humidity, but man, it'll take your breath away.  Houston, though, is Fuck You Hot.  It's, like, so hot that, like, reading is Fuck This and doing anything physical is Fuck That and, man, Fuck You for even mentioning the heat, fucker.

Yeah.  Austin, it's hot.  But nowhere near as bad as y'all.

Like everyone, when the dude is full grown you'll be lucky if he thinks you're only "a little nuts."

Keep it up with the music and please contemplate an MFC entry.
