I was watching Simon Shama's history of England last night in between debugging World of Warcraft LUA addons, and it was the turn of Edward I on the podium.
One thing that came across is that although Ed was a violent nasty piece of work, Robert the Bruce was even nastier. Why the Scots have statues of him I can't imagine.
He also had his own Iraq, sending an army to "liberate" Ireland resulting in lots of internecine bloodshed.
