Print Story Sometimes I think that I'll find a love

One that's gonna change my heart
I'll find it in Commercial Appeal
And then this heartache'll get chased away

Holy Shit, the new Spoon Album rocks!

I mean, a lot. A whole fucking lot. The only tune I find annoying at all is "The Ghost of You Lingers", and that's probably just frustration at the fact the drums never come in, no matter how much I think they should. And to tell the truth, I'm listening to it now, and it's engaging, regardless, in a Pet Sounds sort of way. If Pet Sounds was a little glitchier. Where before that was not a word, now it is. Behold the power that is mine.

Also, it is a pain in the ass to type with a blood blister on your fingertip. Still, I play through the pain, all for you. You're welcome.

Junie's watching Cover Shy
My head's feeling light
I believed that someone'd
Take care of me tonight
Anyhow, anyway, so I split
Oh just getting out of there,
What's gonna get me out of this?
I spent the night in the map room,
I humanize the vacuum.

In other, related news

This weekend I failed to see Spoon and Rogue Wave at Cafe du Nord, despite positive-looking circumstances, and prime location of base camp in relation to said target. It seems we were about 75 people away from getting in. Goddamn bastards selling tickets, day-of-show-only. Whatever. They'll get theirs.

Finger pain update: still hurts.

So yeah, anyways, \M/ SPOON \M/. The following tracks, in particular, fucking rock: "Finer Feelings", "Don't You Evah", and "The Underdog", and, and, and, fuck it, the rest of them, too. If you like things that rock, you need the album. Here is a link to Donut Wheel's bonus song version. Or, if you're some sort of luddite or hippie or what have you, you can find it someplace else. However: give the dudes some money, man. They earned it. They brought the rock. And they'll actually get the money, since they're on Merge.

OK, enough of that.

You got no time for the messenger,
Got no regard for the thing that you don't understand,
You got no fear of the underdog,
That's why you will not survive!

The best thing about being the legislative branch and the executive branch, is that you can change the laws once you find them inconvenient, or refuse to enforce them. The wisdom in this is obvious.

No, I am not talking about politics.

And what's with the nausea and heat flashes, anyway?

Finger pain update: continued pain.

For Those About To Hate, We Salute You

Work rocks. A lot.

And I got my motherfucking Multicam (please pause here to visualize 30 identical cam's, coming down from the sky. OK, thank you, we may now return to the diary, already in progress) division nametapes today. The rest of the Multicam uniform should arrive later this week, likely tomorrow, but possibly Thursday. Phase Two is in full effect.

I was part-time at the Tasty Prawn
That and moving furniture and cutting lawns
Covered in newsprint, staying up real late
Just holding out for some fate

Here is a song for you

Whatever you do, don't download it, and please, for the love of all that is right in this world, don't tell me what you think. You can take those opinions and shove them right up your ass!

It is a cover of a song written and performed by Steve Kowalski Army, circa Bloomington, Indiana, 1987-88, though this version bears little in common with the original.

Which reminds me; in browsing the other day, looking for contact info for a friend from that time who was in Steve Kowalski Army and now drums for Rogue Wave, I stumbled upon musicalfamilytree.com, which is just surreal for me. That someone 1) actually had all these recordings to encode, 2) encoded them, and uploaded them, and 3) that I don't know the person, is very strange. Anyway, load up on Steve Kowalski Army, Mudkids, and the Smears. You'll be glad you did.

Finger pain update: giving some serious thought to just knifing this bitch, bleeding it, then smothering it in Neosporin. Wikipedia says that's a bad idea, but Wikipedia was started by a man who prefers to be called "Jimbo".

Single sleeps alone
And I know you don't really mind
Five years by your side
So I know you really don't mind

HOLY CRAP, IT'S LATE!

And I still haven't had any goddamned dinner. That's life for ya. Always with the no dinner. Oh wait, you mean that was entirely my fault? Weird.

Always out on some witch's hunt
For the one who never lets me want
Before you know it, it's all fucked

Poops update: I think I will make some later tonight. It will probably be squishy, but who knows for sure?

man, Spoon is overrated.  Local kids made good, but fuck that.  Austin doesn't want successful bands.  We want bands that will only be successful in Austin, ya dig?  So Spoon can go right on relocating.

Once they do, I'll start listening to them again.

In the meantime, have you heard anything from Ghostland Observatory?  Yeah, I know, a lot of it is like "yeah, I remember my first keyboard, too!" but the groove and the Bootsie Collins-style vocals shrieked from an Indio kid with pigtails is just too goddamn much, ya know?  Plus, they aren't huge yet, so we can still like them for a while.

I think they're already ahead of you by MohammedNiyalSayeed (4.00 / 1) #5 Wed Jul 18, 2007 at 09:39:30 AM EST

At least I get the impression that Britt Daniel moved to Portland, OR, like, six months ago or something. Time to re-up the fan-club!

I've only heard one live thing by Ghostland Observatory. It was rockin', but reminded me of a neutered "Lightning Bolt". Ooooh! That reminds me; I believe Assacre is from Austin, and man, do they ever rock!

Bring the God damn vocals forward God damn it! by greyrat (4.00 / 1) #3 Wed Jul 18, 2007 at 08:20:05 AM EST
I'm going to keep saying that 'till you start doing it! My ancient ears can't hear what you're singing and it's fucking pissing me off!

That said, I like it. One of the best blends of your 'wall or sound' sound and 'distortion from hell' sound yet. I'd say that it drags a little starting about two thirds of the way through, but I like the way it disintegrates at the end.

Sing along with mns! by MohammedNiyalSayeed (2.00 / 0) #8 Thu Jul 19, 2007 at 09:28:59 PM EST
Time after time after time after time
Time after time after time after time

Time and time you tell me lies, tell me why
that you're rich, when you're as poor as can be
you know you tricks never worked on me
and your powers of deception
are merely a reflection of your insecurity

Why're you so afraid of the truth
Time after time after time after time

In a world of white lies and provocation
You took a vacation from fact,
You're never knowing that
you're infatuated
with fantasy
(unintelligible mess, which i'm still trying to track down Mr. Shover and ask him wtf it was he sang there)

Why're you so afraid of the truth
Time after time after time after time
Time and time you tell me lies, tell me why

Tell me why
Do you need it?
Do you really believe all those lies?
Your deceit
It doesn't make you full of mystery
it only makes you full of it

Also, you can get two versions of the original here (song name "Burned Bridges", "02 2-Burned Bridges.mp3" is the preferred one, the other one is a later recording, after some lineup changes, and not as good in my estimation), which is by far superior as a pop song than mine. I'm debating whether to cut out part of the middle, or just completely mangle it, drop down to a soundscape, then build back up again before kicking the drums in for the end.

I've already got a file named scorched bridges! by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #10 Fri Jul 20, 2007 at 03:49:44 PM EST
Do I really want this one?

I mean, I could listen to both of them and decide for myself, but then I'd have to, like, do two things at once.

linkylinky, search for the last "burned bridges", this might work, directly, but I'm guessing it won't.

Heh. You think *I'm* lost by greyrat (4.00 / 1) #13 Mon Jul 23, 2007 at 07:49:40 AM EST
We had my dad at a wedding for one of my nephews this weekend. He walked up to my sister and I and said" "How are you two related?" And then a little later at the reception: "I don't know what's going on here, but it sure looks like people are having a lot of fun." I'm just waiting to get that bad.
