I'm lucky.

Good news from the endocrinologist. My Graves' looks like it's going away - permanently! I'll probably get to stop taking the bitter pills in the next six months.

Now I can focus on slowly getting back in shape. The Graves' was so bad, the doctor compares it to being hit by a truck. Given that my goal is to get back to dancing and cycling, I'm looking for suggestions on slow and easy ways of easing my body back.

I'm also looking into moving in the next couple of months. The area we're in has crappy schools. I've heard rumors that a certain area of Washington has great schools. I've done some web searching, but I'm unsatisfied with the results. Does anyone know great school rating/ranking websites? I've seen what a fantastic school system (New Jersey schools ranked #3) can do for my kids.

My family is starting to plan a big international trip. My mom was looking into Egypt - but I don't think that's especially kid-friendly. Anyone with any great trips with kids ideas?

The shirt was a compromise. by muchagecko (4.00 / 1) #5 Fri May 04, 2007 at 03:58:11 PM EST
Grandma wanted him in a dress shirt, but he wanted to wear a t-shirt. The buttoned-up casual shirt is somewhere in the middle.

He's smiling - but it's his straight-across business smile. It was a very formal occasion.

People are blowing your son flak by MohammedNiyalSayeed (4.00 / 2) #8 Sat May 05, 2007 at 03:40:29 AM EST

about that collar, but I swear to god, all the cool kids used to wear the collared shirts like that when I was his age, and I'll be goddamned if I didn't turn out friggin' awesome. Good on 'im for having such excellent aesthetic taste.

Wait, is "aesthetic taste" like "conniption fit"? Who knows. I'm drunk, and should probably go to bed.

Both doing your own thing in the most friggin' awesome way.

I was pretty proud of the dude when he remained happy about his shirt selection in spite of Grandma's dismay. If he's not about seeking external approval at this age, hopefully he won't listen to the bad kids when he's older.

Thanks

I too wore collard shirts and slacks to school all up until about 10th grade, when I finally wondered "Why the hell am I bothering to look nice for THIS place??"

It's spelled "collared" not collard.

Kid friendly holidays by Herring (4.00 / 1) #12 Sun May 06, 2007 at 07:04:51 PM EST
Not the UK.

Taking the kids out to eat in France last year would've been cool - except that Stepdaughter is a vegetarian. This is not a concept they have in France. Small Boy was able to order a few things in French and he got on fine.

I was considering the UK - it seems that a place where the kids speak the language would be good. What's so unfriendly for kids?

Good to know that veggies don't do well in France. I'm a veggie - maybe my subconscious picked up on the carnivore nature of the French that's part of why I've never been a fan.

Kids in the UK by Herring (4.00 / 1) #14 Sun May 06, 2007 at 08:22:25 PM EST
OK, it's not so bad as it used to be - especially if you're in a holiday type area (e.g. Cornwall). Still, taking children into restaurants in the UK seems to be a rare thing to do - although things are improving.

Many Britons *hate* children. Fact.

Irony: ammo says it's time. Tom is blocked.

Essentially the doctor told me I could have my life back. Now I'm working on having time to get my life back. Which means moving closer to work. Bellevue - here we come!

Aren't you going on vacation soon?
