Dusty by nekrosys (4.00 / 3) #2 Tue May 01, 2007 at 02:38:02 PM EST
This is a photo of one of the stray kittens that lived our garage for a few days.  I called this one Dusty because the patches of tan fur under her black fur made her look dusty.  Here she is examining a twig.

and like Dusty, she was originally a stray - we call her 'little monster':

and this is our 18 year old cat, he is a contortionist. One time he was sleeping in such an odd position we thought his leg was broken.

Same Hamster by ObviousTroll (4.00 / 2) #15 Wed May 09, 2007 at 10:02:09 AM EST
He's become a bit of a daredevil, too. A couple of weeks ago, I forgot to close the basement door and he followed me down the steps - in the ball.

Fortunately I was still there, so I caught him half way. He seemed annoyed that I interrupted the ride.

I haven't found him sleeping head down in the tube since that day, though.

Not a cat by ShadowNode (2.00 / 0) #7 Tue May 08, 2007 at 01:35:23 PM EST

I didn't have much choice in angle for this as I had to shoot through a chain link fence around a construction site.

So, my more pretentious entry: Animals

Animals

Background: Some cookie cutters. 5-10 years ago, you'd have been able to see the Toronto skyline from this spot.
Midground: A bunch of savages who live in this town.
Foreground: A poster looking for a kidnapped dog.

I also thought of submitting this but decided against it because a silhouette/sunset is so cliché... but posting two pictures is cheating, so sssh.

Banana slug seen on a dirt trail in Eaton Park (a little hiking / nature park in the San Francisco peninsula):

Only processing is to resize it as I couldn't come up with any ideas on manipulating it.

Teddy Bear / Paw by stark (4.00 / 3) #21 Thu May 10, 2007 at 11:35:45 PM EST

So if you look at a cat's paw like this, and imagine a little face on the middle bit, it looks a bit like a pink teddy bear.

Processing: levels adjusted, curves tweaked, and the whole thing sharpened.

From a trip to the zoo last month . . . by slozo (4.00 / 2) #25 Mon May 14, 2007 at 09:34:45 AM EST
. . . I got a few good photos, but this one struck a chord with me.

Post production work included creating a greater contrast between background/subject, some colour saturation, and adjusting of midtones and brightness to create a washed out, dreary look. I wanted a bleak feel to it, as my heart really went out to this poor creature . . .

I haven't had many chances to take pictures, so when I saw this fella out my window I took the shot.

I like how round and chubby he looks on the little ball.

Constructive criticism by ObviousTroll (4.00 / 1) #30 Tue May 15, 2007 at 05:38:30 AM EST
I would have cropped it tighter, and also diddled the saturation and contrast to make him stand out more.

I'll tackle some tutorials and learn about levels etc.

Part of my problem is I'm too lazy to reboot into Linux for the Gimp, I wonder if the Win32 version of Gimp is worth bothering with.
