What the title says...

So, tomorrow evening, after Welsh Girl gets off work, we’re off to see the Welsh Parents and celebrate Hanamatsuri. Heck, I’ll probably get drafted to make White Russians during the party, but why not? Tonight, however, I have a different kind of drinking to do…

So, the Alamo Drafthouse, in its infinite wisdom is having a special showing of Beerfest. Not only will a couple members of Broken Lizard be there (and Jay will be one of them) but there will also be a beer contest. There will be six venerable artfully brewed German beers and six cleverly new style American beers and the audience will be tasked with deciding which side (German or American) has the better beer. I foresee the Americans winning, but once again, what the heck.

So, what else can I tell you about what’s going on with me? Well, some friends of mine who play 40K and I are getting together a campaign that will hopefully lead into the establishment of a league or something similar. That would be cool. I’m going with Welsh Girl to Atlanta in a couple of months. It’ll be her first airplane trip out of the state (her first airplane ride was about a year ago to Lubbock and then by car to New Mexico). That’ll be pretty cool. The guys we want to cater our wedding haven’t responded to my emails asking for prices even though I’ve spoken to them in person and they requested that I send it. That kinda sucks. I’m enjoying playing B5 a lot. Add to that that I’m watching it thanks to Netflix, I’m actually dreaming about it on occasion. That’s both good and bad. I work quite a bit. Lately. Good because I need the money. Bad because I miss having the time.

I’m going to be working a lot at the part time next week. I’ve been plowing through the opposition’s internal emails looking for items of note for the upcoming depositions. Normally I only do 10 hours a week or thereabouts, but next week I foresee doing quite a bit more since the depositions start Monday. It’s all a big case of corporate finger pointing but since so much money is at stake… Besides, if they want to pay for my wedding, I won’t stop them.

My coworker I don’t particularly like? The really sour one with the remote control fan? Well, I finally realize why I dislike her so much. I think she reminds me of my mortality in a very direct and somewhat disturbing way. She always seems about ready to keel over and die and not in the “I’ve-lived-one-hundred-years” kind of way, but rather in the “I’m-about-to-collapse-under-my-own-weight-and-malaise” kind of way. Gaah…

I guess that’s about it for now. Back to the paper mines, I guess. When next you hear from me, I should be in East Texas, more than likely getting drunk.

That is all.

The Washington Post had a blind beer drink off ... by lm (2.00 / 0) #1 Thu Apr 19, 2007 at 07:13:08 PM EST
Bud and Rolling Rock did surprisingly well.

I don't really follow the corporate news so maybe I missed it if Latrobe got bought out by AB, but even if that happened it doesn't make them the same beer. Coors makes Killian's Red. Yet there is no mistaking Killian's for Coors.

The Brewery in Latrobe is no longer there.  Rolling rock is made by AB or Miller, one of the big guys now.

That's kind of sad by lm (2.00 / 0) #5 Fri Apr 20, 2007 at 06:41:42 AM EST
Visiting the Latrobe brewery was on my list of things to do. I practically drive through Latrobe once a year on the way to drop my daughters off at summer camp.

You can visit Straub in St Mary's by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #6 Fri Apr 20, 2007 at 09:19:51 AM EST
IIRC that's not too far off your route.

It's close by when we visit my wife's family by lm (2.00 / 0) #7 Fri Apr 20, 2007 at 10:02:24 AM EST
She has an uncle that lives in DuBois. Her Grandmother was originally from St. Mary's. But the summer camp is down in Ligonier which is south and east of Pittsburgh. St. Mary's isn't even close to being on the way between Cincy and Pitt.

I do have a soft spot for Straub even if I like Rolling Rock better. RR is one of the best mass produced beers in the states.

I went to college out that way and never got to visit the brewery.

Now I'm 30 minutes from Yuenglings brewery.
