It's amazing how much distance can be covered walking in tiny areas. Take, for example, the Viex Carre --- roughly .9 miles from Canal St to Esplanade Ave, roughly .4 miles from Decatur St to Rampart St. Walk up each street lengthwise and then back down the other, and you end up with .. 12.4 miles. :)

It helps, too, that the buildings are pretty. The stores are a mite impractical, and it's a terrible place for driving ... and Armstrong Park, still closed, gets my vote for worst use of wrought iron ever ... but the decayed elegance of the buildings is stunning.

miles? what's a mile? by theantix (2.00 / 0) #1 Thu Apr 12, 2007 at 07:45:29 PM EST
For the benefit of your non-US readers I should point out that 12.4 miles = 7.7 kilometres.  You know, metric system... what the entire world uses outside the USA and Liberia?!??!

What's Myanmar done to you for you to leave it off the list?

I understand you foreigners need some sort of simple decimal system to keep things straight. Us real Americans know how to divide by 5280.
