Print Story MFC and BSG
By Phil Urich (Sun Mar 04, 2007 at 11:14:02 PM EST) MFC, Chebyshev, oops, BSG (all tags)
So, I have an MFCX entry, though it won't upload; I'm not surprised by the latest BSG ep's ending though I haven't downloaded it yet.

Inside: uploading weirdness, why my MFC entry sucks in the particular ways that it does, and a poll on which Battlestar Galactica main character should be killed off.

The mp3 is under 10 megs; it won't go.  Weirder, though, the very basic and minimalist cover I upped does CLAIM to be up there.  It gives a "not found" error, though;  this is the entire text of the page I got when I upped it:

Warning: move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move '/tmp/phpctXaAE' to '' in /home/httpd/duff/ on line 59

Hey, it worked!
Now, go look at the list.

So what went wrong?

My shitty, two-second cover (I just felt like it, what can I say) is also up here in both JPEG and PNG (ie. dirty hippy image format, I suppose).

The tune itself?  Well, I ended up running out of time, having left it all to the last minute and suddenly every task in the world ambushed me.  Thus I only had my test vocal track and test guitar track.  Worse, though, my computer had been acting weird about line in and thus I had recorded to my mp3 player, which in past has worked fine but this time I had the guitar recording FAR too loud and so that track was just a trainwreck of bad distortion and clipping.  So I just went with it, kicked it up a notch even with heavy Chebyshev distortion to make it sound more deliberate and less of an error.  It's actually the part of the song I rather like, despite my amateurish playing lying underneath it!  My hit-and-miss vocals, err, I like those less so.

I always have issues with firefox... have you tried IE (or other browser?)

why sit, when you can sit and swivel with The Ab-SwivellerTM
IE isn't really an option... by Phil Urich (2.00 / 0) #2 Mon Mar 05, 2007 at 12:24:10 AM EST
I'm a Dirty Linux Hippie nowadays. I was trying to upload with Konqueror (64-bit).  Konqueror is more standards-compliant than Firefox, I believe...but alas, often what counts is how IE-like a browser is.  Can't get IE to work in Wine though (doubtful that IE would work even up to IE-levels running through Wine, though!)

Actually, I think I'll TRY Firefox, I have a 32-bit version that . . . yup, that did the trick!  Doesn't seem to escape the problem with the cover pic, though, so the problem must either be with the picture itself or the cover upload is actually broken now on 256's site.  In other words, I'll try saving that JPEG differently...

actually, maybe the cover problem IS the server? by Phil Urich (2.00 / 0) #3 Mon Mar 05, 2007 at 12:48:01 AM EST
The error message seems to be saying that it fails to move it from the temp file it uploads to.  I've tried all I could think of, too, making it a relatively tiny JPEG and ekewing anything fancy in the encoding in case the server actually needed to deal with it as an image (no progressive scan, etc) but nothing worked.  Alas!

Thanks for the Firefox suggestion, though; the spirit of the thought was true :)
