They only managed to get £20 for a painting.

and I would pay £20 for some of those paintings even though they're by a two year old because I like the energy of them.

The article is a bit disingenuous in that it shows the toddler in front of some blatantly child-drawn pictures, while laughing at the foolish art-world.

But then at the bottom of the page it show the actual two pictures in question.  And you know what?  They're really good.  That they didn't get more than £20 is what surprises me; I think they were ripped off.

Oh Christ - how the hell did I end up sticking up for artists?!

They did get an email from a vanity gallery too.

This has been done more successfully before though, IIRC a couple of times. I think you need a slightly older child who can do patterns, and some gallery space to give you credibility.

His mother is "a freelance art critic", and apparently a reader of the Sun.
For those of you in colonial climes I should point out that 'The Sun' is a tabloid rag, most famous for putting pictures of naked women on page three of every issue.

You have to go for the Star or the Sport for complete divestment (normally). Of course, I only get them for the highly intellectual articles....

Theory and context is often as much a part of contemporary art as the piece itself nowadays, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but has obvious pitfalls like this.

Of course I could now go on to make the argument that the young boy's work has gone on to become valid contemporary art through its ramifications, if I could be arsed.
