we call it the Desert Castle.

me, megpye and ryskie that is.
it's a condo far on edmonton's southernmost underbelly.
the full name is the Desert Castle Reality TV Show.

megpye recorded a bizarre message on our answering machine about our Desert Castle.

ever wonder what happens when you take 3 quirky punk rock crunchy granola hippie free spirited queer odd weird young adults and give them a brand new Dream Home?
stay tuned faithful listeners, stay tuned.

the name comes from the house's instruction manual and warranty. just like the new appliances, when we opened up the house there was a booklet full of "helpful" information. like what colour the walls are. it's not beige. despite appearances, our walls are actually the colour of a desert castle.

we tumble and swoop around the vacuous space. 10 or 12 foot ceilings. two huge bedrooms, three bathrooms, walk in closets, and open concept kitchen living room dining room with a gas fireplace.

coffee is served on the island.
we have a huge Dream Kitchen, you see. ryskie can stand on the counter without his head touching the ceiling.

we stare out immense windows and sliding glass patio doors at the ravine, and watch the security guard make his rounds.

we're trying to have fun. if we see each other around the house that is. it's strangely large.

i fear we are not going to do so well down here. megs and ry are super stressed out by the general business end of things. i'm stressed out by the distances i must cross to get downtown. we are all stressed out by the weird suburban landscape carved out of the city's edge.
we flail wildly between hysteric hilarity, irritable bickering and the silence of space.

megs and ry went to vancouver to visit relatives for a week. i think the holiday will be good for us all. i will inhabit our saharan lair. make it a bit homier for their return. then i shall leave for ontario and let them figure out how they best fit into the castle keep. we'll be fine come the new year.

all megpye and i want for christmas is a roomba to clean the floors and keep us company.

what we really want is a pet, but such things aren't compatible with investment condos. the smell of cat pee lowers the resale value, or so i hear.

I always had a problem of strong colours washing out and looking like crap.

Congrats on the castle by Lady Jane (2.00 / 0) #3 Thu Dec 20, 2007 at 01:25:03 AM EST
It sounds great -- I hope it works out for you guys.

We bought a Roomba last weekend... haven't actually taken it out of the box yet though.  We did the research after our impulse buy, and can't decide if we should risk it or do something more beneficial for the house with the stupid amount of money we spent on our robot vacuum!

poor little orphaned roomba! by misslake (2.00 / 0) #12 Sat Dec 22, 2007 at 02:53:05 AM EST
but IT'S A HOUSEHOLD ROBOT!!!

dude, we are living in The Magical World Of Tomorrow!! why pass up the chance to have a robot in your home?!?

the allure of owning a robot vacuum far outweighs any sort of logical or reasonable home economic considerations for us.

I'll catch a feral cat for you by muchagecko (4.00 / 1) #4 Thu Dec 20, 2007 at 01:49:10 AM EST
to share the love of pretty kitties that hiss when you try to pet them.

Ok - not a good idea, but when you decide you want cat piss - think of me.

i'm used to it. by misslake (4.00 / 1) #13 Sat Dec 22, 2007 at 02:54:32 AM EST
misstrish always used to hiss when you tried to pet her.

i'm used to that by now!

My kids do that also. by muchagecko (2.00 / 0) #15 Sat Dec 22, 2007 at 03:56:57 PM EST
It's an autism thing with them. I don't think trishy has autism and it sounds like she's doing better now.

I've offered before, but it never hurts to offer again. Since we're so close geographically - if you ever swing the Seattle way, hang out here and we'll go dancing. I know some fantastic dancers who definitely don't hiss.

If there's a central leasing office, by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #5 Thu Dec 20, 2007 at 08:03:32 AM EST
you might want to check with them about "the item". I'm out of luck from this end, and I don't know how long UPS will hold it.

if your house is too big... by clover kicker (2.00 / 0) #6 Thu Dec 20, 2007 at 10:10:04 AM EST
just get more roomies!

The owner's manual for the condo isn't a bad idea, the next time you have a wild party and put holes in the walls you'll know what color paint to buy.

When 606 described just how far out the Dream Home was from downtown. How will dear misslake handle that?!? Hopefully it gets better in a bit.

Have fun in Ontario though! I wish I could travel this Christmas, but sadly decided about a week after moving that I can't travel anywhere until at least after the new year -- my kitty isn't really quite yet acclimated to household of cats. Though she is doing better.

I do wish you could have a kitty, but I guess whenever the investment condo has, um, vested? What do you call it when a property is "ready"? Anyway, hopefully you can start putting together  a menagerie then.

there is a magpye... by misslake (2.00 / 0) #14 Sat Dec 22, 2007 at 02:58:56 AM EST
that lurks near a particular spruce out back.
i've already started plying him with breadcrumbs. soon i will win his affections, and perhaps charm several other of the ravine's creatures into being my familiars!

if i can't keep my menagerie in my house, i will keep it outside my door, and in the schoolhouse, and everywhere. someday i will be able to gather up all my naminal friends under one roof again. someday.

I saw the movie by moonvine (4.00 / 1) #8 Thu Dec 20, 2007 at 11:49:40 AM EST
The Shining when I was about six. It was on television and I had snuck up behind the couch to watch it. For good reason my parents did not want us watching these scary films so young.

Since that movie, I have never wanted to live in a huge house (I thought the hotel was a house when I was young). I've had many kiddie nightmares.

In any case, now a days, I don't mind big homes so much, but still not a big fan of dark and closed areas where nefarious types can lurk. BRrr!

I like them wide, open and filled with large windows. But sometimes it can be hard to make these spaces "comfy" and lush. But the kitchen is huge! You can have so many wine/beer/liqueur/dinner making parties! It can be a blast! I want to come visit!

Enjoy your week alone. Run around naked! I always loved having the house to myself.

We love you!!!! by littlestar (2.00 / 0) #10 Sat Dec 22, 2007 at 12:52:19 AM EST
All of my creatures great and small send you fuzzy warm vibes. Butterscotch (out newest kitten) is sooooo cuterific. She sits on top of Nubby's cage, and puts her paws in his cage. It makes him squeak and make funny little sounds.

My life is insane... but I'm not unhappy. How long you in Ontario?

Hugs!
