Musings on two headlines and the results of Greek 301.

Newsflash! Ohio politician proves himself to be a moron. The pertinent quote: U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot, R-Westwood, said Monday that he has doubts about the accuracy of U.S. intelligence reports that say Iran suspended its nuclear weapons program four years ago. ``It may be true, but I can't be sure,'' Chabot said. Obviously, US Congressional representatives have a far better idea of what is happening over in Tehran than do the CIA analysts who are actively studying the situation.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the events out in Colorado where a shooter was stopped by an armed guard at New Life Church. The very concept of armed guards in a Church disturbs me.

My Greek  professor took pity on me. Consequently I'm walking away with a B-. Given that I was fervently hoping for a C, this is great news. It isn't so much that I have trouble with Greek but that I have trouble reading parsing Greek grammar in a test environment without recourse to various charts of verb endings and the like. I don't know what I got on the final but I didn't walk away from it feeling good and my first two exams in the class were an F and a C. So either the professor took pity on me or class participation made up for an awful lot.

That is all for now. I retake the GRE in two and a half hours.

shooting. It is odd, though.

The New Life Church was founded in 1984 by Ted Haggard, an evangelical preacher who was fired last year after a male prostitute accused him of paying for sex and using methamphetamine.

Just to stop those Roman Catholics cornering the market, I suppose...

It's interesting to note that he was raised in a strict Christian household, which apparently resulted in him becoming insane and hating Christians so much that he wanted to kill them.

I don't know that it is clear that his lack of sanity was caused by the Christian portion of his upbringing.

It's not the Christianity to blame by theboz (2.00 / 0) #6 Wed Dec 12, 2007 at 09:08:21 AM EST
It's his family's flavor of Christianity.  They were basically a religious cult, and it's clear that his parents raised him in an environment where mental illnesses are created and flourish.  So I wouldn't blame Christianity, but I do think that the form of it his family participated in was abusive, and abuse often leads to violence.  With all that, this guy just snapped.

He's right of course. The CIA is really just making its best guess here. The intelligence community would even fess up to that.

That said - he obviously missed the memo that the neocons are outsville and the whole strategy of repeating the President's talking points is a death knell these days for alcoholic politicians with bad hair.
