A few weeks ago, we ordered an El Gato EyeTV hybrid, which is a gadget not much bigger than a USB connector and containing a TV tuner.
It's been in the box for a while now, waiting for us to drill a hole through the wall and route a TV cable to the iMac. We finally did that this afternoon. After some (much) reconnecting coax screw connectors to cable, it actually works! It essentially makes the iMac into a TiVo kind of a gadget. For now we're marvelling at the sharp wide-screen picture, while watching the last 2 undefeated teams in the NFL play each other. We found the freeze-frame button, but it's not a "pause live TV" feature. I imagine that's in there someplace, if only we'd read the manual.
This is, in part, in preparation for a date tomorrow with the Verizon folks, who will come & install FiOS (their fiber optic connection, which does phone, internet, and TV on their fiber). I hope they don't break anything.
Cooking time. We're doing garlic's chicken recipe, improvising saag paneer, and I'm gonna try to make some naan.
