  1. My daughter may be part shark.
  2. My son is still a pirate.
  3. The Muppet Movie holds up. So does Calvin and Hobbes.
  4. Apple pie!
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.

Little K's first adult teeth have come in. She got the bottom ones in behind her baby teeth, which show no signs of going anywhere. It's disconcerting. Her dentist is aware of it, but hasn't chosen any action yet. Mostly we joke that my husband's history doing research on sharks has had a long-term, Lamarkian evolutionary effect.

MJ just showed me the X he made to mark the spot. He even trimmed the edges. He doesn't spend quite as much time these days pretending to be a pirate, but it's still a fascination. For some reason, he and his tiger were making a movie the other day. He talked me into taking him home from pre-school, promising to let me work. While I tried to work, he was in my office taping paper to the radiator for the movie screen, and then had problems with the movie camera. Tiger was eventually able to fix the pipes, and they started filming. Mama was not given a copy of the script, so I can't tell you what it was about.

Maybe this game came from our recent watching of The Muppet Movie. They really like it, and MJ and K sing variations of the "Movin' Right Along" song sometime while they play. This morning MJ set up a tent in the living room, and told us he was on his way to California.

The introduction to Calvin and Hobbes hasn't had quite the same effect on play. I asked MJ if his tiger would be like Hobbes, but he solemnly told me that Tiger (a Beanie Baby) was too small. My aunt sent a C&H book that I didn't already own for my birthday, and that caused my partner to pull down the one that had the original strips. I'd forgotten how much of our early marriage was colored by Calvin and Hobbes.

I made apple pie. It was good. There are two slices left. I used Honey Crisp apples, since I had a half peck of them. I've been on a baking tear lately, having to stop myself from making cookies before the last project is eaten.

Today I cleaned the fridge. I took everything out, scrubbed it down, and got rid of the unofficial biology experiments.

See?  This is why I don't post diaries any more.

Very good eating apples, with a flesh to withstand being in a pie, but a bit wasted as a pie apple.

The Muppet Movie by jimgon (4.00 / 1) #3 Sun Nov 04, 2007 at 03:07:06 PM EST
I remember seeing that in the theatre with my father.  We used to  see a lot of movies together when I was kid.  The Muppet Movie is a very fond memory of mine.

My eldest daughter picked up Calvin and Hobbes at school.  She really enjoyed it, so it's on the list of things to get her for Christmas.

Also,  concerning Calvin  and Hobbes one of  my old friends loved the character so much  that he always said that he would  name his sone Calvin.  He had twins,  so  he named  one Calvin and the other Hobbes.

That makes me think of the Neil Gaiman story of when he and his daughter Holly were listening to a music, Walk on the Wild Side came on, and she looked at him. He knew they were about to have The Talk. "Yes, dear, we named you after a transvestite in a Lou Reed song."

Better than Lola by ambrosen (4.00 / 1) #6 Sun Nov 04, 2007 at 05:44:57 PM EST
Well, except for the thing about giving head being a bit more intense than anything Lola ever did in front of an audience of millions of MOR radio listeners.

D2 also did this. Quite funny. She liked being a shark.

shark! by iGrrrl (2.00 / 0) #8 Sun Nov 04, 2007 at 09:21:16 PM EST
We have a set of shark jaws on our kitchen wall (and a dog skull on the speaker in the living room, but that's another story). I think Little K knew more about shark dental norms than human until she was six or so.

And the Electric Mayhem.  If ever there was a better name for a band, I never heard it.

Also I liked when "looks like Zoot skipped a groove."  We still use that line in our house when Dear Wife or I cannot remember what we started to say.
... this is dreamworld after all... it isn't? Shit.

Zoot by iGrrrl (4.00 / 1) #9 Sun Nov 04, 2007 at 09:23:27 PM EST
For a character with so few lines, he's always been one of my favorites. I have a feeling that phrase is going to enter our family lexicon, too.

Daughter has one canine like that. by greyrat (4.00 / 1) #10 Mon Nov 05, 2007 at 08:22:45 AM EST
Now that she's older and in braces, we're having lots of fun with the orthodontist dragging the adult tooth around her mouth and into the correct position. The technology they use now to do that is cooler that cool -- as long as I don't go into too much detail describing to daughter what's going on in her mouth.

My nieces and nephew had palet expanders, which made me wonder what happened to just pulling teeth. Anyway, I must have some odd dental genes, because I still have a baby tooth, and my mother had two when she died.
