Boredom

First time in a looooooong time we've been home for New Year's.

Getting tipsy, so this is probably less interesting than normal, if that's even possible.

There a (likely inane) poll as well.

New Year's

Usually, we're trying to get a few hours sleep before heading over to the Rose to drive FIL's rig from the line-up area to the staging area. But since FIL had to put his beloved horse down, FIL isn't in the parade this year. Nudie's (look him up if you don't know who Nudie Cohn was) granddaughter was trying to get in the Rose with one of her father's cars, and was going to have FIL ride with her, but she wasn't accepted.

So we kinda don't know what to do with ourselves. Years of being unavailable, and not being the party type, mean no party invites. Our neighborhood doesn't even have the typical DINK's new year's party. So we're here.

Drink

I've been into the Red Wine a bit, so I'm a bit tipsy. So this is a tipsy diary, not a drunken one. My bad. I'm correcting my spelling too, I just can't let it go.

2006

I already whined about 2006 elsewhere, so I won't again. I can't however, say enough how much we appreciate Clock and Stacky allowing us to partake in their wedding. Far and away the highlight of the year, and couldn't have come at a time when _we_ needed an excuse to get away more.

Work

It's engineering. So it's much harder than the state job was, but FAR more interesting. I think I _may_ be getting at least a better job tittle very soon, though likely not more pay straight away. Also they may have a project I can do for my master's instead of the oral exam, which would be beneficial to both me and the company.

That's it

I don't have anything more to say. Not that I really had anything to say when I started this.

Here's hoping 2007 is a substantial improvement over 2006!

Happy New Year! by reza (4.00 / 1) #3 Mon Jan 01, 2007 at 12:01:20 PM EST
NYE was a quiet affair around here...sleeping children and me wandering the 'net til I fell asleep.

Well, now we no longer need to whine aobut 2006 as it's gone.  It's time to look forward and see what 2007 has to offer.  Not sure, but I hope the menu's better than the last one!

Yeah. We did that unit 4:30am local time. Not up there amongst the brightest things we've done lately.

...we were so glad to have you there!  we'll have to stage a get-together 'round these parts when the unit arrives.  until then, i have the feeling we aren't going to be much fun in person.

best of luck in '07 my friend!

I wasn't fishing for compliments by FlightTest (4.00 / 1) #7 Tue Jan 02, 2007 at 09:33:39 PM EST
We really needed to get away then. We needed to remember to have fun. We needed to remember we actually do have friends. The timing could not have been better.

I may have a business trip to Houston this summer, but it's by no means definite. I'll of course keep you updated.

Sadly, '07 is already not shaping up well. FIL's G/F seems to be worsening quickly, and one of Mrs. FT's cousins is down to 90 lbs, and fading quickly.

i didn't think that you were! by clock (4.00 / 1) #8 Wed Jan 03, 2007 at 09:58:38 AM EST
i'm sorry to hear that things aren't better.  i like to believe that the world moves in cycles and things that go down eventually have to pop back up again.  but that's cold comfort now.

best of luck, really.

and do shout if you're going to be in town!  we'd love to see ya!
