I'm run off my feet at the moment, so why, you might wonder, am I taking time out to write a diary? Well, because rebooting takes time. Such is the joy of kernel development. And you know what else takes time? Recompiling a kernel. To be fair, normalising a couple of thousand .OGGs in the background probably ain't helping the processor much.
My main customer had slapped a deadline on me a while back. Normally I'm not pushed about having unrealistic deadlines slapped on me, but this one has a bonus riding on it. Normally, that wouldn't even do much for me, but everyone's bonus is linked so if I drop the ball, everyone else loses out too.
That's bad enough, but now I've had a new and separate deadline slapped on me. Apparently I'm the only one in the critical path on this one, and if it all goes well, our products could be the basis of the next generation product line for a billion dollar company.
Then this morning, I got an email from a guy at a 3/4 billion dollar company asking me to completely refactor a project I thought had been knocked on the head months ago.
On the plus side, MGM and I had a huge fight a while back, I woke up in the morning to find she'd left, and wasn't returning my calls or emails.
Don't get me wrong - this is actually kind of a good thing. Reason being, it's all sorted now and it made me realise that I can't remember the last time I went out with someone long enough to have a proper argument, let alone care about it enough to actually patch things up rather than cut my losses.
Went to Electric Picnic last weekend. I've been to all three Electric Picnics, all of the Oxegen festivals, and all off the Witnness Festivals, and yet this was the first time I've ever actually gone with a girlfriend.
Right, tracked down my kernel bug, so gonna sign off. If anyone has suggestions for a 30th birthday present to buy for one's older brother, I'm all ears.
