I'm up in Austin for the labor day weekend. Unforuntately I've had so much on my mind for the past two weeks I did not think to try and make plans to meet up with any of the Austin-area HuSers...my schedule is pretty full anyway.
My back has been bothering me again for the past two weeks...not my back really, but that's where the problem is, and it's easier to say "my back is bothering me" than "I have intermittent radiculopathy and numbness due to herniated discs in my lumbar spine". Sort of what blixco has gone through but nowhere near as bad. Still worrisome, still bothersome. I should have been looking forward to this trip with a vengance and instead I've just been hoping I'd be able to relax and put it all behind me. Walking makes it better, so I've been doing that in the mornings including this morning, while I watched people playing tennis wistfully.
On top of that stress, work has suddenly become much too interesting...I need to have a talk with my 2nd-line manager when I get back on Tuesday. It seems I may have been moved, de facto if not de jure, from one group to another, without my manager or I being consulted.
Well, life moves on, of course. Dad and I went to the Capitol of Texas Nebraskans watch party for the Huskers' season opener against La Tech, whom they beat nicely 49-10. Rice, of course, embarrased itself by blowing a 30-14 3rd quarter lead to drop their opener against UH 31-30. I went fishing on the San Gabriel yesterday morning and caught nine fish, mostly small but fun. I started watching Firefly on DVD last night; I'll get to take the whole set back to Houston with me and then give it back when my folks are in town for the Adams/Beethoven concert in two weeks.
All right, time to take a shower and get moving. Dad and I are going to blow some holes in paper targets and then run some errands pre-lunch.
