When I went to Shinagawa on September 1st, I was primarily going for photographs, but I ended up writing about that trip and the memories it brought back ("August/September 1984/2006").  Nevertheless, I did take a few pictures - some of which I've posted here:

I need to take more daytime photos, but in order to do that I'll have to take them early in the morning....

What I love most about you photo essays by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #1 Sun Sep 24, 2006 at 10:21:44 AM EST
is the way you pack the images in right on top of each other. That and the frentic, dynamic compositions make the whole essay feel like what I imagine a packed, urban country like Japan must feel like in real life. Super work.

Thank you!  I especially appreciate your comment on this one, because it's met with a resounding silence from everyone else I've shown it to.

I've got some new night photos in the works taken with a different camera that seems to be more suited to low-light work (faster low-light shutter speeds and better color balance under artificial light).  As for the Shinagawa page - it's not terribly focused, but I think it does give a fair view of what you'd find if you walked the same route I did around Shinagawa Station.

'...not terribly focused...' by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #3 Wed Sep 27, 2006 at 01:05:49 PM EST
I think that's why I finally commented: The almost absolute chaos the the Shinagawa page presents makes it feel real. It's in all your pages, but here it really hit home to me. I'd be interested in seeing how you'd lay out pages for -- oh -- the countryside in Denmark or something like that. You current format wouldn't fit at all. Beautiful work as always. I've got to get back into photography. Our styles are very similar. But I just noticed that the deck on the back of the house is collapsing. So the camera funds go back to the house...

Not Denmark, but on the Chuo Line... by lylehsaxon (2.00 / 0) #4 Sun Oct 01, 2006 at 02:10:39 AM EST
I got to thinking about this, and I ended up doing a page in a different format.  I'll post an entry about that in an hour or so.
