Sorry about the long title, but I had to ask the question.

Today I was gifted a queen size mattress and box spring.  Freaky and I have been sleeping on two twin mattresses shoved together on the floor. It will be nice to be off the floor.  Not much higher, but a few inches are going to make a huge difference.  We can probably get an inexpensive frame somewhere.  We just need some queen size sheets and we will be set.

We were also given a microwave that is nicer than the other one we were given recently.  Some Playboy Magazines, and some random other stuff.

I went in and thanked the person who was responsible for me getting this stuff.  She basically told me that because I am nice, she thought of me to give me the things.  She is going to have good karma.

$70 queen sized frame from Target which is about what I paid. I'd check Craigslist too though.

Go by a local discount furniture store... by atreides (2.00 / 0) #2 Fri Sep 22, 2006 at 04:43:27 PM EST
They'll probably sell you a frame cheaper than $70. Heck, they even give you rails if they just have them sitting around taking up space...

Have you seen The Passion yet? Here's a spoiler for you: Jesus dies.

if you could find <$70, not used. Target's pretty discount as far as furniture goes.

Well, a lot of discount places... by atreides (4.00 / 1) #4 Fri Sep 22, 2006 at 05:13:46 PM EST
...around here just get lots of unsold stuff cheap so it's not used. In fact, if you (and by you I mean he/she/whoever) go to a higher end clearance furniture place, they're more likely to give you the rails because they're more interested in moving last season's $3K bed for $1.5K than in these rails that mean little in comparison...

freecycle!!

just ask; you'd be surprised as to what you may receive.

I am a freecycle member here, but I have nothing to give away.  One needs to offer something before asking for something in freecycle.  Of course, had I been in ME, I would have had many many many things to give away.  It's tough being broke in a new city.

about having to give something away; when i first joined here i got things before i gave away. unless they really monitor closely (which would be bizzare), i think you'd be ok.  but like dve trash said, it's generally first come, first served so you've got to sit there and watch constantly.

i find weekends are best; it's when everyone is cleaning out their houses.  good luck!

Most of the popular items are responded to by hordes of people.  You can get lucky though, as that's how I got my dresser.
