The why and wherefore.

I'm back singing with the Houston Symphony Chorus.  After hearing what their concert schedule would be this year, I figured I'd kick myself forever if I didn't do it.  I thought I had botched up my re-audition pretty badly, but I was allowed back in anyway.  Last night's rehearsal was pretty much a microcosm of what I like and dislike about the group.  We spent two hours painfully rehearsing a difficult, relatively unknown composition (John Adams' On The Transmigration Of Souls, during which I was continually annoyed by how unprofessional some choristers are (well, we are all volunteers...but still).  Then we got the payoff, i.e. Beethoven's 9th, particularly the molto tenuto, fortissimo "vor Gott!" in the change from D major to B-flat major...shivers up and down my spine as I think "I'm really getting to do this?"

That's about it.  I had some fun this weekend hosting some gatherings, and I'm kind of bummed out about my newfound Trial/Pinafore friends all going off to school, but life goes on.

I'm involved in an open reading of Thomas Tallis' Spem in Alium tomorrow night, which should be fun if I can keep from getting lost. There are like 45 people signed up to sing 40 parts. Eeeple.

Also, I've discovered, the choral public domain library, which has pdf-format scores for hundreds of classical choral pieces. Fun.

Can you introspect out loud? --CRwM

Now that a majority of my new friends from the show are in college, i'm sad to see them go.

what's sadder is they are all about the age of a kid i could have had.  sigh  I'm old!  LOL!
