Queen & Roncesvalles revisited, streetcar tracks and wires also revisited.

Whoa, that minivan is seriously mis-proportioned. I guess I'll have to pretend it was a smartcar.

I read Elektra Lives Again for the first time. I remember giving it a perusal in the comic shops when it first came out, eagerly expecting a followup to the classic Elektra Assassin, but was put off by Miller's cruder-looking artwork. Well I must have had some pretty specific expectations, or perhaps we just weren't ready for his non-traditional comic art abstractions, cause this is a very solid book. Not anywhere near as ambitious as Assassin, but very cool in its own right. Even if the overall plot arc isn't all that satisfying (particularly if you're looking for a big continuation of the character's story,) it does feature some spectacular storytelling sequences. One scene in particular, with Matt Murdock giving confession in his neighbourhood church to a priest who hasn't got a clue what he's talking about and seems to misunderstand every other thing he says, has a fascinating kind of awkward truthfulness to it.

Elektra herself is nearly absent from the story so I guess that may have been another reason I passed on it years ago. That and living on a student budget.

What else... hmm. Sorta wondering if I can set up mod_mono so I can do a little asp (oldskool VB legacy style) work for a small job. Installing the version in the Ubuntu package manager seems to be out of sync with what's currently documented over on mono-project, so no luck with my Apache config yet. Damn, I don't even know exaclty what "asp" means anymore. Or still. I never did really need to know anything about asp. This'll be one of those jobs where I have to dick around trying to install & configure software for most of it.
Dear Shawshack, I may or may not stop by for a visit tonight, depending on the humidity and my overall laziness factor. Anyway, I hope illnesses have been beaten into submission.

for this diary that I forgot about: should an artist include the signs & logos for megacorps that may appear in scenes they are depicting, or omit them pretending they don't exist in order to retain some degree of quaintness.

Back in the day, it was almost unheard of by debacle (4.00 / 1) #4 Wed Jul 26, 2006 at 05:44:15 PM EST
In this day and age, though, where the coke you drink defines you more than the god you worship, I'd say go for it.

Then again, no one wants to immortalize a megacorp unless they are damning it to infamy.

Personally, If I were depicting a real place, I would tend towards realism. If I were trying to create a simulated location, I'd probably tend towards ignoring signs and logos.
