That pretty much sums it up.

Does anyone think HuSi needs a proper Wikipedia entry? By "proper" I mean highly misleading and inaccurate - e.g. "Similar to Freerepublic except without the objectionable language and constant references to stoats".

Started reading The Selfish Gene (not having read it before). Quote (bearing in mind this was 1976) "Today the theory of evolution is about as much open to doubt as the theory that the earth goes around the sun". How times change.

Experimenting to find the ultimate taste sensation pizza. Tonight's effort:

Tomato sauce (made using chopped tomatoes, tomato puree, onions, garlic, oregano, salt, pepper)
Anchovies
Green olives
Pepperoni
Sliced mushrooms
Pickled jalapenos
Mozzarella

It's good, but I think it needs capers.

Went in to the office yesterday and did some testing (in exchange for money). Yeah, it is fucked.

Most impressive chilli on the plant is a Romanian Hot which is about the size and shape of a squash ball and still green.

My mum gave me a banana plant/tree. It's very small but growing fast. It is currently too hot in the conservatory for it (reaches well over 50C even with the windows open). Don't think I'll even get any fruit but interesting nonetheless.

That pizza sounds great, and reminds me that I have anchovies in the cupboard, which need eating with something.

Capers are a bit middle-class for Asda. I was lucky they had anchovies.

I created an entry for "Hulver's Site" on Wikipedia a year or so ago, but the fuckers deleted it.

The Selfish Gene is a great book. Having read it, I have noticed that a lot of critics of "selfish gene theory" haven't. I've read more than one comment from actual working biologists make comments about how it's ok, but now we need to explain altruism, which is a bit like saying "well, the theory of natural selection is ok, but now we need to explain how animals evolved".

can I give you this tidbit from the continent: the ultimate taste sensation is variety. Pizza (I'm talking about the Italian kind, not "American Pizza") should be approached from a minimalist angle. My personal favourite is having smoked ham and cream cheese pizza on one day, and hot curry chicken the next, and perhaps a vegetarian one with red peppers, onions and eggplant on the 3rd day.

but if you order an American Pizza in Europe, you get (assuming they'll do it for you, which is usually not the case in Italian pizzerias, but is on the menu in Pizza Hut and derivatives) a pizza with a thick base, often baked in a metal dish, and a lot of toppings. Italian-style pizza, on the other hand, will have a very thin base which is supposed to be hand rolled from fresh dough and baked in a stone oven over a wood fire. It should not have much toppings, which would make the base go soggy. Many generic pizza are in between these two extremes.

But that's nothing like, say, a "Chicago Style" pizza, or the sort of thing you get at trendy California pizza restaurants, or pizza from any of the places that advertize "wood-fired" ovens.
I suspect the trouble is that you go to some shit fast-food restaurant like "Pizza Hut" and assume it represents the only pizza people eat in the US. Far from it. Many of the regional styles of pizza created in the US were created by first-generation Italian immigrants a century ago.

Yeah though there are probably too many flavours going on there. I'd probably break it down to two combos (sauce & cheese a given):

Olives, capers, anchovies (maybe some red onion)
Pepperoni, jalapenos, er .... the mystery third ingredient I am looking for which may be green pepper
