Hm. Not on google any more.

So Coro Stella Maris is giving a concert at Halibut Point State Park in Rockport, MA, at 4pm on Sunday the 23rd of July. I managed to google that up once, but can't do it again. Some oldies (from our repertoire) including various settings of Ave Maris Stella, some Italian and French madrigal-type stuff from Willaert and Dufay, and some more modern stuff (shape note; maybe some jazz). First time we've sung outdoors. Should be, shall we say, interesting.

What else to say? I could tell the tale of the briefcase. Or the kid whose love of running fast got beaten out by sadistic PE teachers. Or other tales of people who used to be me. Or is it the other way around... I used to be them? Other tales involving high tech that's not really so high when you look more closely (but the TV camera has no nose). Or the one who spent a very long time figuring out who s/he is, and meanwhile had other interesting stuff happen along the way.

Dunno. Vote.

It's summertime. Not much going on. There's yard work needs doing, but it's usually too hot to do anything particularly demanding. Could be rewriting the nano. Should certainly be writing more than the requisite half hour per week.

There's a cool conference coming up in the fall; if I can get my act together with respect to some data we have, and get an abstract writ before the end of next week, maybe I can go. 'Twould be fun. It's been a while since I went to one of these things.

PE teachers have a lot to answer for. by ambrosen (4.00 / 1) #2 Wed Jul 12, 2006 at 02:59:06 PM EST
It's fair to say they throw away more raw talent than any other teacher, at a huge human cost in health and happiness. Of course the good ones have a matching benefit, but they seem rarer.

I have an acquaintance, late of a 500 year old school, who ran very well. Utterly ignored. The school ruined him when that ability could have made him with enough confidence to survive the rest of the school.

Most of mine were

a) incompetent

b) former bullies who enabled bullying in their class

c) former bully sycophants who enabled bullying in their class

d) all of the above.

But now, 25 years later, the jocks are all fat and wheezing like calliopes.  Everything the PE teachers and coaches taught them about exercise, turns out it was all a pile of shit.

All of the above. I could provide a "remind me to tell you the one about ..." service, as I have done for johnny in the past (and most likely the future).

"later" meant either "when you walk around the corner" or "oatmeal."
