Phone report: The phone is fixed. I think. I hope. I've got a dial tone and I can make crystal clear calls. But an hour after he left, the DSL dropped synch again. I'm hoping that was a one-time thing. Developing...

Back report: Ouch. Spent the weekend off the bike, laying on heating pads. Do you know how hard it is to find an old fashioned rubber hot water bottle? I decided to get one to take on the bike trip, just in case, since I won't always be near convenient electricity. It took three drug stores before I found one in a dusty box in a locked filing cabinet marked "Beware of the leopard".

Further phone report: The DSL seems to go out any time there's a voice call. I can make calls out, but calls in do not ring and the caller does not get sent to voicemail. Both calls in and out disconnect the DSL.

This is becomming a nightmare.

Further further report: Verizon repair guy showed up again at 1PM and left around 3 after having strung a brand new wire all the way around the place. I certainly hope that's the last of it.

Further back report: Chiro appointment on for Wednesday. Their inquiry yeilds the fact that Insurance will cover 12 visits per calendar year at the normal office visit co-pay. As it's already July, that means I could go every two weeks. I'm hoping it won't take more than once.

Heh. Who am I kidding?

One of the managers is a wee bit upset at $client. She'd been testing her new app for a while using the development database (as she was told to do). I was then ordered by IT manager to refresh the development DB with new data from the live site. This overwrote all her testing data. She's not pleased.

Bike ride coming closer. Plans in place for parental arrival Thursday for dog sitting. Hotel room reserved for Friday night. Fundraising has made target. Goal: $3000; Raised: $3240.

again.

When I wanted DSL, I ran one new line from the telephone connection to my study, so I new I'd get a good line.

Hey, don't let your back go for too long.  Do your McKenzie exercises, even if that's not the problem they'll help the muscles calm down.  That and hip shrugs.

My surgery is Wednesday!  Yay!

But if you reordered your intro items as "Back, Phone, Work, Bike" it would map better to the song by the Godfathers.

What happened to your back? by Bob Abooey (4.00 / 2) #5 Mon Jul 10, 2006 at 05:01:08 PM EST
And what happened to Pink and her ex fiance guy and his girlfriend?

And what happened to that giant fee they were going to levy on your building for repairs?

And what happened to that relative of yours who was chucking stuff at parked cars?

And what happened to my freaking hair?

Warmest regards,

  1. I was supposed to have dinner with The Arborist where I would have found out, but so far schedules have not allowed. IIRC, Bunny is out and The Arborist is back on the market.
  2. They levied. I paid. In four easy installments of $1000 or something.
  3. Still in jail, bond unmet. There have been developments on that front, but would require a hole diary to recap.
  4. High humidity does that.

wheels by LilFlightTest (4.00 / 1) #8 Mon Jul 10, 2006 at 06:55:50 PM EST
if the bike nick was given has slightly bent wheels and crappy tires, will it be cheaper to replace that, or the whole bike?

Tough to say by ad hoc (2.00 / 0) #11 Mon Jul 10, 2006 at 07:18:33 PM EST
You can get cheap wheels for about 75 each, I think. Maybe a little less. You'd have to replace tires anyway, so they don't enter into the equation. This and this are about $150 for the pair.and they're both servicable.

The real question is why are the rims bent? If the bike was in a accident bad enough to bend the rims, the frame and/or deralleur hanger might also be bent which will either be expensive or futile to fix.

would sitting in a garage for years be enough to cause warpage?

not unless it was hit by a car or a lawnmower or something. Rusted, yes; warped rims, no.

Well... let me qualify that. When you say "warped" exactly what do you mean? Are they actually bent? Or are they just out of true?

Is it so bad that the wheel doesn't go around? Or does it just look like it's wobbly but they still go around?

Your best bet is to take it to a shop and ask them if the rims can be trued. If that's all it is, it should cost around $20 per wheel. If they're really bent, they'll need to be replaced.

If they just sort of wobble, or if the spokes are loose or rusted, chases are all it needs it to be trued.

they rub on the brakes as they go around, in certain points.

Just take it to a shop and ask them to true the wheels. $20 each, max.
