Its been a while, I've been slack with posting. The stupid R* confidentiality thing s a pain, not just in it limiting what I can say, but in the way it permeates my attitude and assumptions about what I can say about things that aren't even related to R*. So I tend to post less and less. Hopefully that will change with time now...

I was in the UK last week for job interviews. Was in London (twice), Brighton, Portsmouth, Knutsford, and Lemington Spa. 9 days (including the days I flew) and 6 interviews, plus two phone interviews.

All the interviews went well. I've had one company make me a very nice offer, my choice of which team/department. I've had one rejection, one vague/weird "we don't think you really want to work here, but call us if your other interviews don't work out", and am waiting on the three remaining potential offers for feedback.

I'm back in Vienna now. Kinda struggling with all the details of how to move away. Lots of paper work, and I'm not sure I'll get it all done right.

Weather is beautiful now. Was great in the UK last week, and I've come back to more of the same here in Austria.

...

Was about to go to the post office, but I just realised its a national holiday today...

you're not one of those rockstars with opinions about world peace and such. That would really suck with the confidentiality and all. Count yourself lucky!

Are you still looking for work in the games by Breaker (4.00 / 1) #2 Thu Jun 15, 2006 at 06:24:27 AM EST
Industry?  Or just general C/C++ stuff?

But apparently, after 10 years working in games, I now come across as a 'games programmer' now.

Thousand Yard Stare that gives you away I think.

Good luck with your job hunt.  Hopefully R* gave you a generous enough payout to keep the wolf from your door long enough for you to be picky.

Home of the Man eating squirrel. Former home, actually, since it was shotgunned by irate locals. But I suspect its descendants are just waiting for their opportunity...

Why not post under a different name, programming_primate_GBR, rename the company to CockStar and slander them to your hearts content :)

Knutsford? by DullTrev (4.00 / 1) #7 Thu Jun 15, 2006 at 11:48:51 AM EST

Who the hell is based in Knutsford?

It's too close to Warrington, don't do it.

Err, well, about 20 years ago the UK nuclear industry was based there, but don't quote me on that.

You'd be interested in Seattle?  I know someone hiring at Amazon, who thinks that great games programmers make great programmers, period.

For a few reasons, the main one being, Dylan's medical condition makes him uninsurable.
