Dallas/Ft. Worth, under water, out of power, here we come... Chicago, Goshen IN and somewhere in Michigan, get ready..

Where do you stay when you travel ?

Light day of work. Got all my projects tied up nice and neat. The Mrs arranged our transportation to/from the airport, so we don't pay $100 to get the car out of the parking lot (quite a racket).

We'll land in Dallas around 1630 tomorrow. Hopefully the power is back on, and the roads no longer flooded..  We'll be too late for the rehearsal dinner, but we'll find somewhere to eat. Wedding is Saturday night,  so we plan on hitting the Ft. Worth arts festival in the AM/afternoon Saturday. We're at a B&B about 4 blocks from the wedding/reception place, and maybe 2 blocks from the arts festival. The hotel most guests are staying at is outside of town.. My folks are flying in at the same time, so we're sharing a rental car. Cost of the rental car is on par with just taxi/transfers to/from the B&B, go figure. But they'll be staying at a B&B a few miles away, we got the last room at ours.

After the wedding, Sunday we'll fly to Chicago, and stay with a college friend (+husband, dog and 2 kids). Looking forward to seeing them, and wandering around Chicago. Thanks for the suggestions in my last diary (as I write so often, rather than stalk).

Eventually, we'll be over to Goshen IN to see family, and brother-in-law's graduation (in MI somewhere). May try to catch up with a friend in Ann Arbor, hoping to meet him half-way somewhere.. Don't want the 3hr one-way drive for dinner ;) ..

So, temporary greeting for my voice mail setup, Outlook away message about to be setup, plants delivered to officemate to water/watch, papers and mail stopped at home, grass mowed... Someone make sure to keep Bob honest while I'm out..

hostels can be fun by 256 (4.00 / 1) #1 Thu Apr 20, 2006 at 10:29:50 AM EST
but i have had generally good experiences with sleeping in construction sites and on beaches and yes, for what it's worth, under bridges.

of course, i always prefer to stay with friends if the opportunity is there.

Dallas should be fine by theboz (4.00 / 1) #2 Thu Apr 20, 2006 at 10:41:43 AM EST
The power is back on, we've not had any more rolling blackouts in Texas for a day or two now that the temperatures are only barely 10 degrees above normal.

actually.. Some 7th Day Adventist place, I think.. A google on those places doesn't look like they are parochial or SDA affiliated.

See, he went to some SDA place (in MI) first for graduate history, then seminary, then decided he wanted to do nursing instead. (All this after getting a degree from Oberlin in history and organ playing).. So he's finally graduating from nursing, but I have no idea where from (ie still the SDA place, or somewhere else).. It's in Michigan, about 45 minutes from Goshen, IN.

Andrews U is a SDA college by thenick (4.00 / 1) #7 Fri Apr 21, 2006 at 05:34:38 AM EST
But Ferris State is the only nursing school in western Michigan. If it is indeed Ferris, check out Schuberg's and try a Big Shue. Once you've done that, you can leave because there is absolutely nothing to do in that town right now. FSU's hockey season is over and the river is too cold to tube on.

sounds like you'll be busy by alprazolam (4.00 / 1) #5 Thu Apr 20, 2006 at 05:21:16 PM EST
if you're in ft worth, there's plenty of artsy stuff to do in sundance square and also bars and the like and the stockyards are kinda fun.  in dallas i highly recommend the jfk museum. the weather should be a bit milder this weekend than it was earlier in the week, it was really nice and cool today (because it rained i guess).

anyway i'll be scuba diving or i'd offer to buy you a beer.

Be careful, dude. by MohammedNiyalSayeed (4.00 / 1) #6 Thu Apr 20, 2006 at 09:11:25 PM EST

You know how those people are.

You can build the most elegant fountain in the world, but eventually a winged rat will be using it as a drinking bowl.
