Dentist
Am supposed to be at a dentist appointment in an hour and ten minutes. As I'm currently about 14 miles away in my workplace, I suspect I'm not going to return home. Scheduling disasters are a frequent occurrence - I seem to have managed to organise everything for the wrong time this week. This is the second appointment - the last one I managed to rearrange with just under 24 hours notice. I suspect ten minutes notice will not go down very well, and I don't want to cut myself out of the only dentist in my area that is still taking on NHS patients...

Travel
I also have to remember to buy some Euros today as I'm off with the gf to Brussels tomorrow evening for the weekend, so visit E, a friend of hers that I also went snowboarding with earlier this year. Should be good fun - apparently Brussels is a really nice city in terms of photographic opportunities, architecture, culture and beer, all of which work pretty well for me.

Work
Have to get up early tomorrow for a breakfast meeting with the CIO - which in a company of about twenty-three thousand employees is a reasonably big deal. Fortunately there's a large group of people from across technology going to be there, so I don't have to worry about making all the conversation.

Maybe it needs a slighly different crop? Less dark on one side and less light on the other?

... do you feel that there is too much extreme and not enough gradiation between the black and white?

If so, I can see what you mean. Initially I quite liked the contrast between the shadows and the light but the grain between is probably more interesting. It might be a good idea to take another on a slightly cloudy day when the contrast isn't so great.

the advice when printing used to be, some absolute black, some absolute white, but not too much of either.

And I didn't meant to chop a lot off each side, just a little bit so that they don't overwhelm the centre of the picture.

To me at the moment, I look at it and I'm pulled to the black and then to the white and then back to the black. It makes it hard to look at the central part of the picture.

Well, less contrast can be good if you like what you put in the centre. Of course, some would argue that if you don't why is it the main part of the picture, but I do like the contrast you've got there, I just think a tiny bit of trimming could make it balance better. Of course, I always likes pictures closer to square than rectangular anyway...

This was an attempt to be constructive, I really like the pic, I hope these comments are not too annoying.

I just tried opening the picture again and my eyes did dart immediately to the light side of the photo. I have a few different versions of this picture, some of which have completely blown-out backgrounds which I realised looked pretty poor.
I'll have another play with the original and perhaps (if I have time) post another version with a tighter crop next week. I'm considering trying to get a print of this shot, so I'd like to try and get it to look as good as it can.

It's probably going to cost me $1k, as the insurance doesn't appear to cover general anesthesia. I need the general as the local doesn't work particularly well on me and I'm getting 2 or 3 caps, a tooth pulled, and a couple of cavities filled. What fun.

Painful in lots of different ways.

Best of luck with the general, make sure you wake up (and at the right time)... it's just a shame that you can't merely ignore dental problems without ending up looking like Shane McGowan.

I managed to smash the bottom half of one of my front middle upper teeth while assembling an Ikea bed. Moral of the story: don't buy beds from Ikea, or wear a face mask while assembling them.
