Snow afternoon yesterday

Wichita got about 5 inches of snow dumped on us last night. It was sort of amusing; Wichita public schools closed down yesterday morning without a flake on the road. But as it turned out it was a good decision; by about 2:00 yesterday afternoon there was a couple inches on the ground and blowing snow had visibility down. There were some gripes to the local news radio stations "gripe line" but I can't help imagine the furor that would have unfolded had a busload of kids been put into a ditch.

So they let us out at like 1, I went home and tried to convince the dog to go out and pee. Shoveled mom-in-law's drive later when the snow let up, messed around with using the new computer to transfer some videos from the camcorder to DVD (worked awesome BTW, amazing what Real Computing Power will do for this process), and was just getting read to sit down and get some play time in with FFXII....

...And the power goes off at the school. Get a call from the boss, "Coworker is at work trying to get all the servers shut down before the UPS's give out, call and see what kind of help he needs". As it turns out I didn't go in, Coworker managed to get most of them down before batteries started giving out (but not all of them), but once he started getting them back up I remoted in and checked out the Windows boxen, no catastrophes. We've been asking for a room-sized UPS for quite a while now and in fact just recently got that approved, talk about hammering the point home.

I officially asked Jenn for a Wii for Christmas the other day. Mostly because I couldn't think of any other "big" gift that I really wanted. Don't misunderstand, I definitely want a Wii, but as of right now:

  • I'm still playing a lot of WoW, and with the new patch (with lvl41 talents and revised Battlegrounds) coming out (they say) next week, plus an expansion dropping in January...
  • Have FFXII sitting in my PS2
  • Have Paper Mario still unopened
I have plenty of gaming related stuff to keep my attention right now. But that's OK, Wii is awesome by all accounts, I want it. Of course who knows when we'll actually be able to find one readily available for sale. We'll see I guess.

Got Jenn's gift taken care of this year though, which is good. Although I have been thinking lately about getting one more thing, something I thought of the other day after I had ordered the other thing, but is a good idea and something I really think she would like. I think I'll be getting that thing too.

And yes, the previous paragraph is totally devoid of any real info, and is designed solely to tease my wife, who is notorious for not being able to wait when she knows I have a gift for her but won't tell her what it is.

Oh man, let's see:
  • 56 Hunter
  • 55 Pally
  • 60 Mage
  • 31 Rogue
  • 29 Warrior
  • 16 Priest
  • 12 Warlock
Yeah, I've got a short WoW attention span. The past couple of months I have been playing mostly the Mage as I got into Alterac Valley BG, but he's on the back burner again, probably until the expansion comes out. Though I am trying to collect Insignia's of the Crusade/Dawn with him right now to get some good blue ring.
