You are shocked...SHOCKED...that it's already Nov 17.

A brief rundown of what's going on in my life:

- Work: Eh. Not sure if I've talked about this before here but recently did some major upgrading to the domain structure, went Server2003 on our main DC (and replaced hardware) and added a secondary DC on the main campus. Still have to upgrade our two remote office DC's to 2003, but that's lower on the priority as they seem to be fat dumb and happy for now.

More reminders that Microsoft sucks though. We have been installing 2003 Standard for most of our server needs lately. One thing that came up earlier: Our Terminal Servers setup in load balancing for the clinic app: working well, but we are struggling with how to handle logins in the clinic. The nurses are off and on machines frequently as they run around, and HIPAA frowns on generic logins. The idea of using Session Directory to help ease these problems was researched. Only catch: You have to be running 2003 Server Enterprise to take advantage of this.

Second thing that came up yesterday: We are working on upgrading our wireless security to WPA2, in conjunction with a recently deployed Cisco wireless controller. Setting up a certificate server on a Server 2003 Standard machine. For some reason Server 2003 will not allow you to mark keys as exportable by default. So you have to go create a custom template to use when you are creating your certificate. OK, fine, it lets you do this. Right up to the point where you try to import the custom template into certificate services. Oh, too bad, you need Enterprise to do this. Bastards.

So the edict went out from my desk yesterday: We are no longer installing Server 2003 Standard. It's not as bad as it sounds perhaps, as you can apparently upgrade from Standard to Enterprise fairly easily (testing this today), but damn MS; it's like they have people working to find ways to make your life hell.

- Play: Still World of Warcraft mostly. Long weekend/was sick Monday of last week so I got a lot of play time in. My main character (mage) is Rank 7 and very near Rank 8 in PVP. The plan is to get to Rank 8 this week, get the two new PVP set pieces, and call it good on him until the honor system is changed via patch. I would push for Rank 10 to get the full PVP set but I don't think I have the time to put forth that kind of effort. Plus I'm getting a little burnt out on playing the mage. Plus...

...Jenn went out and bought me FFXII, Paper Mario for the GameCube, and a DS Game, Mario v. Donkey Kong2. Mario v. Kong was interesting, sort of like Lemmings. I played FF12 for a couple of hours over last weekend and of course barely scratched the surface. Paper Mario I haven't even cracked yet. So yeah, I definitely need to get back to the consoles.

Wii coming out this weekend, everything I see/read about it is getting me pumped about it. Not sure when I'll pick one up, probably depends a lot on what's going on in my life, what all I'm playing, etc. Virtual Console has me excited though; I really hope Nintendo follows through on this and keeps releasing all the old good games through this.

- Sports: I'm 7-3 in my FF league, Tony Romo is working out well. Also LT and Willie Parker didn't hurt me much either. Like I told the guys in my league, you know you had a good week when the running back that went for 200+ yards was your third highest scorer.

Chiefs are still too up and down to do anything serious this year, looks like my pre-season prediction of a 9-7 season will hold. They'll likely miss the playoffs the way Denver and San Diego are going, but even if they do find a way in, will likely just lose to one of said teams in the first round.

Jayhawks lost this past week, but overall I think this will be a pretty good team this year. It'll be interesting if Self can find a way to break their two year tournament drought come March.

And of course, OSU/Michigan. Being from Kansas I normally only have a passing interest in this game, but I must admit the hype machine has started to get to me this week. Look for OSU to beat the Wolverines this weekend, but not by much, just because this would be the worst thing that could happen from a BCS perspective, which I am coming to believe is a cursed idea.

The Nephew - Get to see him this weekend. His domination of all life is surely only weeks away now.

Stupid VMWare is all screwed up, I have to reboot. Guess that's enough anyway.

BCS == WHACK by Bob Abooey (2.00 / 0) #1 Fri Nov 17, 2006 at 04:33:27 PM EST
The winner of this game has to be numero uno in the BCS rankings. There can be no other outcome.

Warmest regards,

And undoubtedly they will be. However, if it's a close game, the question will be whether we should have a OSU/Michigan rematch for the title game, or whether someone like USC/ND/whomever else survives with one loss deserves the shot. Hell you might get that even if OSU or Michigan gets blown out.

BTW Bob, any thoughts on whether Big Blue will have a "Win one for the Schembechler" advantage now?
