So, it's time to vote on which photos you like the most.  You can vote on up to three photos, and voting closes in three days, at about 1500 GMT on Friday 3rd November.

See inside for links to all the entries...

Update [2006-11-3 9:59:25 by stark]: The voting is over: the winner is decided! Congratulations to LinDze for a great photo which won 36 votes.

Second place went to benG and there was a very narrow battle for third between TurboThy and greyrat, just won by TurboThy. See inside for more details of the voting.

Hope everyone enjoyed it - how about another in a month or so?

Here are the entries, in comment order:

Thanks to all the entrants for taking the time to create something and enter it. I hope it was fun.

Thanks also to Ignore Amos for his ineligible photos; I still like the photo of the carp feeding!

(Incidentally, apologies to two plus three equals five for overlapping the WFC4 voting period. Perhaps we are having too many competitions on HuSi!)

Gotta vote for ignore amos' ineligible pic  because it has wiredog in the background (only no sharks in this one..)

I'm thinking I won't make this the front-page poll, though, since the WFC4 vote is there already.

I personally think by stark (2.00 / 0) #6 Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 11:38:17 AM EST
that we probably have too many competitions on the front page anyway; we need more quality diaries on there instead.

I've linked to this from the current front page Photo FC diary, so hopefully anyone who cares will spot it...

I voted for LinDze, but honourable mentions to greyrat and Ignore Amos for the multigrips and carp.
I'm suddenly glad I didn't enter.

Its the old saying where you just keep shooting until you get your one grea shot. I did about ~4 rolls that day and maybe a dozen are even useable.

Greener almost got my vote by hulver (4.00 / 1) #5 Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 11:37:08 AM EST
It's a really good picture, but hasn't really got anything to do with water.

but yeah, no obvious water. I figured everyone else was breaking the rules though and it was the contest that lead me to taking that pic so I decided to toss it out there.

But I'm an anal motherfucker, I didn't vote for anybody else who's picture didn't include water either.

TurboThy's is my favorite. I like straight lines. I liked Millman's colors.

The Haunted House pic was cool but not enough water for a vote.

BenG is the Bomb by Gedvondur (2.00 / 0) #12 Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 01:43:19 PM EST
Great pic.

Lots of the other pics were top-notch too, but BenG's was the best.

You should try medium or large format some time.

Yeah? by LinDze (2.00 / 0) #22 Wed Nov 01, 2006 at 05:58:37 AM EST
I dont know what id step up to. probably a home brew large format sheet camera id suppose. 120 is the "smart" choice but just seems like a bit of a half effort.

In all reality im thinking the next photo project for me will be a hacked digital. I really want to shoot more infrared without killing my bank account. I also love shooting night stuff so a setup of IR LED flood/fill lights sounds like a whole mess of trouble too.

WRT your earlier comment about pushing you should give it a go. I like low light photos, never use a flash, and prefer handheld whenever possible. Because of this 75% of what i do is either TMZ or TMY pushed. No real difference in processing, you lose a little bit of range but the grain still holds when pushing TMX/Y out a stop or two. TX400@800 is interesting, a real gritty but smooth look. Kind of a classic photojournalist feel. TMZ@6400 looks like sand but its really interesting what you can do with that at F1.8/1.4. Ive also tried puling TMY/Z in a stop or two a few times. Its nice, but IIRC I got better results pushing the slower film one stop up.

Yeah! by komet (2.00 / 0) #27 Wed Nov 01, 2006 at 03:40:01 PM EST
I have both. 120 is like a bigger version of 35mm to develop and print. I use 120 for most casual shooting and hardly touch the 35mm any more.

Sheet film, though, is a fucking pain to process. I have a daylight tank ($$$$) but it's still annoying as fuck. Then there are negative handling issues with the enlarger. Then you see the finished print, and it was all worth it.

Honourable mention to TheophileEscargot for the best camphone shot I've ever seen.

Thanks for all the kind words by LinDze (4.00 / 2) #23 Wed Nov 01, 2006 at 06:06:44 AM EST
As MM said its not really fair when i have world class scenery all about my back yard. The landscape does 90% of the work for me, I just try to grab whatever catches my eye. Other than that I personally like to push/develop for a real stark contrasty picture that just happens to look real good to most eyes too. This photo is also a bit notable to me as the tonal range is so huge.

I shot 4 rolls that day and only got around a dozen useable pictures. I was shooting into the sun and the fog was coming over the coast. Ended up with blow outs, dead shadows, and fog/blur all over the place. The photography and the development were all quick and dirty. Youll notice its shot off frame and then scanned off square again. No complaints though, Im more than a bit interestd to see what I can do on paper with this.

I posted some info with the original submission.

Basically I live in Monterey CA and a friend and myself went down for a little hike/picnic/photo action. Locally its a pretty famous spot. there are two large rock formations like this right at the edge of the beach/ocean. My submission was of the northern most fragment you see here.
