ABC News has an article about a four year old girl who began puberty due to an undiagnosed thyroid condition. Upon being treated, her symptoms disappeared and she is (fortunately) growing up to be a normal little girl.

The ever accurate wikipedia has a link on the subject: Precocious puberty. And in news of the really weird, there is a link in that article to the youngest girl ever to give birth: Lina Medina, who gave birth by caesarean section in 1939 at the age of five.

Blech.

Skyla Jones is an energetic 5-year-old from Georgia who loves to play.

Last year, her mother, Melissa Jones, noticed Skyla was tired all the time, had a body odor, and had blood in her urine.

[...]
Skyla was eventually sent to Andrew Muir, a pediatric endocrinologist at Georgia Medical College who knew exactly what was going on.

Skyla was menstruating and was experiencing other unmistakable signs of puberty.
