Name That Mountain Range.

Or, at least, name the highest mountain in the range as, in these internetian times, the two are quickly and cross-referenceably (<- if that's even a word) equivalent.

Answers tomorrow.

I think I see a frozen leopard, too.

Free-standing volcano by nebbish (4.00 / 1) #4 Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 09:42:50 AM EST
Not part of any mountain range, as far as I know.

I'm going to plumb for it being the part
of the Himalayas with Everest in, though at 8000 odd metres it's well outside the height range.

That frozen leopard is in fact a Yeti on all fours.

No, it's not the Himalayas either.

If the scale was just a little off by yicky yacky (2.00 / 0) #7 Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 10:39:13 AM EST

that'd be a pretty damned decent guess. I guess I ought to put a some measure of scale on any I do in future.

'Like it; you're an out-of-the-box mu'fu' and no mistake. Still wrong, unfortunately; it's not a "trick" scale, it's boring old elevation-above-sea-level.

it's a boring, terrestrial Earth-based mountain [range]. Not that "twists" hadn't occurred to me, but this one is just about obscure enough to stand on its own.

Clarification by yicky yacky (2.00 / 0) #9 Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 11:01:41 AM EST

When I say "range", I mean the range depicted, not the "mega-range" in which the depicted mountains may or may not exist. [That'll teach me for rushing to post it before dashing off to a meeting].

As it happens, though: No; which gives you quite a lot of information in itself.

That's got about eight different names and I'd never heard of it. I'd heard of Kagebo, though, but it took a while for me to link them.

Yeah, wasn't sure how to refer to it by Gully Foyle (4.00 / 1) #13 Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 11:31:24 AM EST
I guess it's Mt Meili, but the peaks all have different names.

Kagebo's about 6750m, isn't it?

Thereabouts by yicky yacky (4.00 / 1) #15 Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 11:41:45 AM EST

if the Yunnan government are to be believed. It's a good guess. It looks like a pretty awesome area, too. It's hard to tell what's the range and what're the mountain names. 'Kawa Karpo' comes up quite often. I guess it's one of those where everyone's got a different name for all of them, and some overlap etc.

It'd be funny if they called them that by yicky yacky (2.00 / 0) #17 Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 11:45:21 AM EST

especially as most of the mountains are decidedly un-dome-like.

Suddenly reminded of a geologist's post by wumpus (4.00 / 1) #23 Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 07:55:23 PM EST
about watching "Alive" with other geology students. He (or one of them) claimed the mountains were obviously the Rockies and didn't look at all like the Andes. The others threw popcorn at him, but admited he was right.
