Wherein not a lot happened.

Firstly, xmas.  Went to teh gf's parents in jefferson city for a few days.  It was okay.  Ate some decent food and drank some decent wine, and hung out a lot.  Loot-wise, her parents got me a DeWalt "heavy duty" reciprocating saw.  I suspect it's a black & decker painted yellow, but it seems pretty solidly built, and since I'm not exactly a contractor or anything it's probably perfectly fine if not overkill for my needs.  I also got a pair of cold-weather compression tights for running in.  Teh GF got me a wireless probe thermometer for teh smoker, and a couple of months to the vino of the month club from the Wine Merchant in St. Louis.  I got her a cashmere sweater.  I also got myself a pair of leather gloves, cashmere lined.  However, I'm realizing, that they're too small.  I got the L and should have gotten XL, so I think I'll eBay them.

After that, it was on to my dad's house.  At my Dad's request there was no gift exchange.  I made turkey dinner on monday, but that's about it.  Turned out okay, but the turkey was a little overdone in the breast.  I didn't brine it or anything, but I think if I'd just pulled it a bit earlier I would have been fine but it snuck up on me so I didn't start checking it until it was already done.

After that, drove back to KC.  I painted the upstairs bathroom dark brown (looks awesome, but I need to repaint the ceiling and touch up some trim where the paint bled around the masking tape.  How the fuck do you paint a room without that happening, anyway?).  Finally finshed the trim around the stairs and got it repainted.  Looks good but I'm going to have to repaint the bannister as the new trim is whiter than the bannister.

For new year's, we drove down to Dallas to hang out with teh gf's college friends.  It was fun.  Nice and laid back.  We ran out and bought the DVD's for R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet (Chapters 1-12).  OMG, that may be one of the funniest things I've ever seen.  We were singing all of our sentences to the tune the whole weekend.  The commentary track alone makes it worth the price of purchase.  It's like the worst 7th grade book report ever.  "Yeah, check dis shit out.  You see, I just woke up, and I'd been planning to bang this ho and get out, cuz y'know, I got me a wife at home".  Not one single insightful comment, although he does reveal that he doesn't know the meaning of the words "cliffhanger" and "ryhme" (e.g., "Dresser" does not rhyme with "Baretta").  9784/1000, would watch again.  See here for more info :).

For the actual new year's, it was nice and laid back.  We went and loaded up on grease at Bennigan's and then went to the flying saucer to consume lots of beer and play quarters.  Amazingly, not only were they cool with us playing a drinking game, our waitress played along.  Teh gf lapsed into her sorority role of "haze master" and I consumed a decent amount of guinness but my deep fried sammich soaked up enough of the alcohol that I stayed more-or-less sober.  We left early, and that was about that.  Pretty low on the drunken debauchery meter, but it was fun.

Operation Interweb Poker is going well.  My initial investment of $100 is at about $94 right now.  I lost $10 off the bat by playing way too timidly and being scared of the whole "this is real money" aspect in a couple of $0.25/$0.50 games, but calmed down and dropped to a $0.05/$0.10 game.  I've played about 10 of those and came out + 9 times and lost $3 the other time.  That time I didn't really make any major mistakes, I just wasn't catching cards so I had a lot of good drawing hands I had to throw away on the river, and a couple of bad beats (one was a medium straight that got beat by 2's full of Q's when 2's paired on the river).  All in all, I'm satisfied.  Made 4 or 5 true mistakes over the course of all of this, and only one was costly (my nut flush got beat by 2222 for a $2.50 pot, but I probably should have realized I was beat).  I think I'm still playing a few too many hands, and occaisonally staying in for too long, but overall I think I'm playing well.

That's about it, yo.

That R Kelly video by MohammedNiyalSayeed (2.00 / 0) #3 Tue Jan 03, 2006 at 09:36:17 AM EST

is truly one the work of a genius. And an idiot. Both in the same body. Like Biz Markie, except Biz Markie really doesn't have much idiot in him, so I guess not like Biz Markie. I don't know how to describe it, but I'm buying that as a gift for some people now, and I'd not call myself a big fan of Mr. Kelly's work, although I thought it kind of cool that he might like making the poops, as I do, as well.

But I DIGRESS!
