Here it is! (m4a file)

It really kind of sucks mostly because I don't know what I'm doing. Also, it seems it encoded in low quality and I don't know why because all I did was hit the "Export Podcast to iWeb" button and it did everything by itself, but evidently not the way I wanted it to do it.

The songs I picked are good, IMO. Hell, that's why I picked them.

Blame mns. He started this mess.

Next up I want to do an all electronic music episode.

Can't access the site :( by gazbo (4.00 / 1) #1 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 03:35:35 PM EST
However, I comment to say that I stumbled across the Mighty 6 remix of Cam's "Nothing for you" yesterday, and I think it's awesome.  In fact, it's made my regular playlist at the moment - which is strange as I usually can't abide remixes.

I'm rather proud of how that one turned out.

It is an accident by 606 (4.00 / 1) #6 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 04:35:03 PM EST
Contrary to cam's claims, that length is totally accidental. I remixed the song and did a final mixdown and only at the very end did I notice the length. The song is exactly as long as it needs to be.

m4a by dr k (2.00 / 0) #4 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 04:16:26 PM EST
Real doesn't want to play this file for me, and neither does Winamp 3, and my Windows Media Player is years out of date. This is my fault, not yours.

iTunes? by 606 (2.00 / 0) #7 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 04:37:46 PM EST
I was too lazy to do an mp3 mixdown. Like I said I just hit the magic "make it go" button and it did it. Of course Apple picks a "standard" that only they can play.

You can also hear it here if you have a recent version of Quicktime installed.

hey that might work by dr k (2.00 / 0) #18 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 07:19:20 PM EST
I have to wonder why Real registered itself to open r4a files, since it doesn't.

You recorded that all from iTunes? by cam (2.00 / 0) #8 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 04:50:37 PM EST
Did you have to set up software on your website to publish it? Is all the clicking sounds at the beginning you at your desk?

not all iTunes by 606 (4.00 / 2) #9 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 05:04:30 PM EST
Sound was mixed and arranged in GarageBand. I was able to drag and drop songs from iTunes into GarageBand and they appeared in the mix. I also recorded sections using a 5$ microphone, and that first song was recorded from my DJ setup (turntables and mixer; that crackling is the needle coming down on the record which I left in for effect. Also, that lame "Let's pretend" scratching stuff is me.) After mixing and setting volume levels I hit the magic "Export Podcast to iWeb" menu item and that compressed it to m4a and created like a website dealie where I filled in the podcast name and text and finally exported it to a directory where it generated the pages and the RSS, which I scp'd to my site.

Sounds like an ad for Apple, doesn't it? It just worked!

It is cool, I will have to have a go too by cam (2.00 / 0) #11 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 05:12:49 PM EST
though I dont have fancy mixing table and scr-scr-scratch skills. How did you get the images to go into Quicktime?

GarageBand by 606 (2.00 / 0) #14 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 06:10:44 PM EST
The new version in iLife '06 lets you make a Podcast Track to contain images and chapter breaks in the podcast. These get automagically encoded into the m4a when you render it down.

I have garageband2 from iLife 05 by cam (2.00 / 0) #15 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 06:13:00 PM EST
Not a problem, I can post it myself as an mp3 or import it into Final Cut.

I don't have an accent! by 606 (4.00 / 2) #16 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 06:13:18 PM EST
I swear I listened to my voiceover and I don't hear the accent on 'about'. I hear it on other words, but not 'about'. It does not sound like 'a-boot'.

That new song on your podcast stream was pretty cool, by the way. I like noise!

Thanks!

I meant to mention, there's a show on CBC these days called Wiretap that reminds me a lot of midnight voicejail. I think you might like it. You can hear it on the Internet as long as you calibrate your timzone thingys. It's on Sundays.

Sweet. by Driusan (4.00 / 1) #19 Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 07:27:32 PM EST
I like.

My only gripe is that when I tried clicking the m4a in Safari, it tried to open it as a plain text file, and when I tried dragging it to iTunes it told me that it doesn't seem to be a valid PodCast URL, forcing me to listen to the QT version. (It's probably a mime type thing or something.)

Other than that, it doesn't really kind of sucks.

My current goal is to get from "not not sucks" to "actually good"!

Don't you know that the Free World only uses Loonix and Free Formats to communicate with each other?  You capitalist scum are a scourge on society and must be removed from power!  Join me, comrade....

erm...

yeah...

I'll have to test out the faad library when I get home so I can listen to this stuff.
