Working life

Screw the golden handcuffs!  I'm sick of this tedious project, fed up with commuting, and don't like London at all.  Especially this part of London.  And I don't care about my colleagues.  Not that there's anything wrong wit them per se.

Apparently The job market's going mad.  If I had the self confidence, I'd become a contractor.  How do people make the move anyway?  I mean, I'd need to leave my job, then find work which may or may not exist.

Yeah, I'm still in a grouchy mood.  I need something to look forward to.

On the plus side, several places are hiring.

Also looking at getting on the property ladder.  I've looked around.  Shared ownership looks like a promising idea.  I can't afford a much nicer place than the place I can't afford if I buy outright.

Currently failing to watch anything.  Tivo watched Life on Mars, so I'll have a look at that later.  Invasion looked good but wasn't really all that interesting.  It all looks kind of familiar.

Season 2 of New Galactica starts tonight.  I'll see if I can actually watch that without flatmates getting in the way.

Nothing to stop you applying for jobs whilst in a job.

Self confidence to become a contractor. Well either you think you can ride out the job insecurity or you can't. I suppose I'm a niche which seems to be suited for contracting.

But I have to give a month's notice. by squigs (4.00 / 1) #2 Tue Jan 10, 2006 at 09:01:48 AM EST
Fine for a permy position, but don't most temp contracts want people to start after a few days?

Start a fight over some whacko nerd issue, like open sourcing your engine, then you can storm out on a point of principle and they won't make you work your notice.

Moving to contracting by Dr Thrustgood (2.00 / 0) #4 Tue Jan 10, 2006 at 02:13:54 PM EST
  1. Accept a contract
  2. Make it happen
