Extremely disappointing
I can vaguely remember Swing Swing when it was released as a single but I never really took to the song at the time. Fast forward a few years and I hear Dirty Little Secret from their excellent follow-up album, Move Along. Catchy song that made me buy the album, which I really enjoy. I decided I like Move Along so much I have to get my hands on their debut self-titled album. I read all the reviews posted on Amazon by other listeners, most of which are extremely favourable, and the omens look good.
Finally I get hold of the debut, and............
I am extremely disappointed with this album. The songs are bland, repetetive and lack the spark of their second release. Credit to the band for growing as artists and releasing a better follow-up album (which isn't always easy to do) but as a stand-alone album this is extremely poor. There's little variety and certainly no originality.... there's not really anything good about this album at all - it's full of music that's been done a million times before and a million times better by the likes of Blink 182 or Green Day.
If you want to buy an All-American rejects album, definitely get Move Along, which is everything this album isn't. I really like the second album a lot (and listen to it regularly) but I can't stress enough how bad this one is. My review might not please die-hard fans of the band but I do really like their stuff.... as long as it's not off this album!
Awesome album
This is like one of the only albums I own which has no bad songs. I'm not even into this style of music but after hearing 'swing, swing' I had to buy this album. I won't go into detail about each track because they all RULE. I recommend this album to teenagers and rejects as you can totally relate to the lyrics
Who says they're rejects?
This album is great! All american rejects are a pop/punk band and all the song are all based on the lead singer Tyson Ritter (total Hunk) experiences with an ex-girlfriend. all the songs on the album were written by Ritter and gutiarist/keyboard player Nick Wheeler. The two songs from the album that you may of heard being played are 'swing, swing' and 'Last song' which are both amazing songs and extremely addictive, just like every song on the album. They're the type of songs that you would listen to and then never be able to get out of your head.
The great thing about this ablbum is although every song is about Ritters ex there are no soppy love song but instead all have great beats that just make you want to jump around.
A great band and a great album, I can't wait until they bring a new album out.
Love It!
Wow, I absolutely love this CD!! Its the best feel-good album I own... it just really puts you in the mood. My favourite tracks are My paper Heart, Your Star, Swing Swing, actually... just all of them really. This album is very beaty - that is to say, its not really a dance-along. More a kind of nod-your-head and sing-along. Soft-Rock Chill Music. My personal favourite. I would buy this for the majority of my friends, but it is a rather acquired taste.
The All-American Rejects
I hear swing swing and loved it, the All American rejects are amazing, their voices are unique which makes them so wonderful. I bought the album and loved it, especially "The Last Song", "One More Sad Song", "Don't Leave Me" and many more, I recommend it highly, I love it!
