When I added the teabag and milk, it overflowed :-(

Also, the first time I did it I didn't use a Pyrex cup, and it cracked when I put it on the cooker to simmer.

I recommend always assuming 7th normal form where items in a text column are not allowed to rhyme.

Why didn't the MIT guys bother to get his volume at the same time they got his length. He could have become the new universal standard for measurement.

Is the sugar, milk and lemon optional?

Does not specify that the milk and lemon should not be used simultaneously. The or isn't enough for some people. I do not care the think about the redneckslovely Southern USians I used to serve hot tea to, who would then request a new cup as they had somehow created a cup of brownish curdled liquid.

Your recipe should be revised to include the following.

Equipment: teapot, tea strainer, milk jug, sugar tongs.
Ingredients: biscuits.
Steps: warm the teapot, warm the cups, strain the tea, serve with the biscuits, etc.

Also some mention of having extra hot water on hand (for topping up) might be appropriate.

The correct way to make tea by hulver (4.00 / 5) #16 Thu Aug 18, 2005 at 05:29:23 AM EST
Hot water
Tea
Milk

Boil your water, fill the teapot with the boiling water and leave for 1 minute then discard.

Add your tea to the tea pot.

While you are doing this, re-boil more water. (Obviously you have the kettle boiling before you discard the warming water in the tea pot, you don't want to leave it too long). Then pour the still boiling water onto the tea in the tea pot and leave to steep. Don't forget to replace the lid.

Depending on the strength you like your tea, leave for 2-5 minutes. Any longer and the tea will stew.

Pour the tea through a strainer into your cup, add a dash of milk.

Ah, nectar.

Don't forget to lock your tea away again, or the servants will steal it.

I heat my teapot by filling it with an inch of water and then putting it in the microwave, while the batch of water for the tea is boiling.

I also boil the water for the tea in the microwave.

You know all that jazz about superheating? by gazbo (2.00 / 0) #23 Thu Aug 18, 2005 at 07:52:26 AM EST
Actually happened to me once.  Totally fucking awesome!  I boiled a cup of water in the microwave, then when I put the teabag in it all started boiling over everywhere.

Kinda glad I didn't start with the sugar, as it may have done them whole "explode in your face" shenanigans.

I recommend always assuming 7th normal form where items in a text column are not allowed to rhyme.

Brilliant, isn't it. by ambrosen (2.00 / 0) #28 Fri Aug 19, 2005 at 01:15:30 AM EST
I had it with milk, making hot chocolate.

The way to do it is heat it to a rolling boil, then leave it exactly where it is to cool (I'm excellent at leaving half heated cups of tea in the microwave overnight or somesuch), then heat it to above boiling point again.

I assume it was homogenised milk, even though at the time I tended not to buy it.

IIRC, the fat globules in homogenised milk are absolutely tiny, to describe it scientifically.

Step 1: Drive to Starbucks.
Step 2: Yell, "Gimme some tea, bitch!"
Step 3: Pay for tea.
Step 4: Drink the tea, dumbass. You shouldn't need all these steps just for some freaking tea.
