And talking of time paradoxes (Dr Who spoilers) by R Mutt (4.00 / 1) #1 Mon Jun 20, 2005 at 01:39:53 AM EST
Did Rose/Bad Wolf bring the Earth back to life after the Daleks melted all the continents? If not, has that created another time paradox since the glorious civilization of whatsisname will not exist?

Who cares? by Dr H0ffm4n (4.00 / 2) #2 Mon Jun 20, 2005 at 01:53:16 AM EST
That was an awful Deus ex machina solution.

Re time travel in the paper, the proposed solution only seems to rule out positive superposition of the wave with itself. Does that apply to sending messages back in time to yourself or someone else who can then kill your dad before you were conceieved?

It was heavily signalled in the "Boom Town" episode.

Not sure if the article's findings actually apply to macroscopic signals at all.

but now they've got to continue into the next series with godlike powers available. No need for cleverness after this, just open up the tardis console again whenever the shit hits the fan.

Deus ex machina is never ok by Dr H0ffm4n (2.00 / 0) #5 Mon Jun 20, 2005 at 03:28:16 AM EST
cf Vanilla Sky. Utter rubbish.

The only time it is allowed is in religious movies. Then, it's kinda expected.

The (admittedly small) disadvantage of death makes it a suitable option for all eventuallities.

Looks at Tardis console.
Cyberman - Argh!
