Would somebody mind getting the lights? Thank youp.

It's hot. This is Popsicle beating the heat in her new orange swimsuit, which I believe she is in the process of soiling as this photograph was taken.

This is the International Schoolhouse Brigade sojourning briefly in the Big Smoke, at the Ein Stein cafe and pub, where several of our party have worked or do work (Scarlet, LittleStar, Slozo). Popsicle is hanging out between pool games while Mademoiselle J. supervises with clockwork-like Swiss efficiency.

I went for a walk out behind the schoolhouse. A got a new canteen at an auction, so I filled it with water so's I wouldn't be all thirsty on account of the heat (32 degrees Celsius this morning).

This is Persephone the hot dog playing in the creek. Not pictured: Persephone.

Popsicle and Bo sitting with Littlestar, showing off their matching casts.

I discovered when I went to draw on it that only the a very short length of it is hard...the rest is all filler and dressing to help keep the thing dry.

My mother took her swimming this morning, taped up in seran wrap and shopping bags.

Popsicle sure is a cutie, and Mlle J. looks like she's fitting right in!

No cast on the first pic. And the wrist is not swollen. Is it old? And who put the cast on Bo? The schoolhouse brigade, or the doctor (which would have been really cool)?

Man, I'm upset now. by Jave27 (2.00 / 0) #10 Tue Jun 14, 2005 at 03:18:30 PM EST
Your 'Land of the Forgotten North Country' looks sweet as hell to hold an event such as HuSiStock...  I can't make it due to timing of a previously discussed road trip with the fiancee.  We're going to visit her dad in El Paso, and checkin' out the Grand Canyon and various other bits around the U.S. during the upcoming great event.  So, it's not like I'll be bored at all, but I'm sad to be missing out on what surely will be a great time.  Have a Canukian brewsky for me, and be sure to schedule a future get together.  I'm only about 6 hours away by car.

That's How They Shipped Her To Us by CheeseburgerBrown (4.00 / 1) #22 Tue Jun 14, 2005 at 05:28:50 PM EST
She doesn't eat much, but she does eat regularly enough (each time we eat) and widely enough (she eats anything we put in front of her -- she'll even have a spot of junk-food like chips for a treat) to make any kind of exciting teenage eating disorder unlikely. She doesn't go to the washroom after meals to throw up, for example.

She seems to like beef, so Littlestar got her some steaks for tomorrow. Tonight we're having beefless tacos...the best I can do is try to encourage her to eat her fill, which I always do.

Should I start surreptitiously (sp?) putting bulk-up powder in her tea?

The something-something plate is all I got. I'm sorry. I was trying to work it for ya, too. Littlestar got out her anatomy book to try to have a looksee, but all that did was remind her how much her sub-standard anatomy book suckulated.

If I'm the one to take her for the de-bandaging in one week, I'll be sure to get the attending physician to write it in my little red notebook, so I can relay it accurately.

seeing as we're coming up on two weeks, can we have a husistock update? :)

If television is a babysitter, the internet is a drunk librarian who won't shut up.

Here's An Update-ette, Just For You: by CheeseburgerBrown (4.00 / 1) #25 Tue Jun 14, 2005 at 05:49:21 PM EST
1. Littlestar and I continue to be foiled in our efforts to arrange a corporate credit card with which to buy goodies. The latest delay is that the bank manager has been promoted, and replaced with somebody entirely new. We're supposed to see him tomorrow, and if he suggests that we need to do any part of the process over again and/or start anew I will literally leap across his desk, grab him by the hair, and then suffocate him in the crack of my heatwave-moistened ass.

2. A new hammock hanging zone has been created for you, aphrael. The old hammock hanging zone was located in a circle of trees in an area which has now been fenced in as a dog-run. The new hammock hanging zone is more centrally located, and does not feature lumps of turd. Old Oak has promised to prune back the surrounding greenery in order to make the new hammock hanging zone less insect-friendly.

3. We have 1 barbecue and have procured 3 mini-grills (one charcoal, two electrical). We may be able to score a second barbecue. We have not yet bought/assembled/imagined a grill suitable for the bonfire pit. We are attempting to decentralize the cooking somewhat, in order to make things go with fewer bottlenecks.

4. There will likely be a very cool cross-genre band called King Tobias performing on Friday night. My brother Isosceles Cat will be putting together some kind of a set for Saturday night. Once we score the corporate credit card Littlestar and I will hit Long & McQuaid to rent some gear.

5. The Weather Network assures me that the temperature will not be in the high thirties in two weeks, no doubt to the great relief of many. At least to me.

6. By hitting garage sales Littlestar has acquired many chairs, but we still only have 1 picnic table. We need more.

7. Six generous people have made fabulous donations.

8. Old Oak's pontoon boat may or may not be in the water in time to give folks rides and/or go fishing. He makes no promises, "becoze ze blooty thing is in such a bat shambles, ja!" At the very least he will probably have towed it out the yard, where it is now taking up a fair hunka space.

9. My Internet connection should be upgraded to "phatter" tomorrow. Network will then be re-stupided together with a second wireless thingy on the end of the very long Ethernet cable reaching toward the yard. By this precarious means I will attempt to lend connection to all who come.

10. There is no ten, only Zuul.

More later. Gotta go help make tacos.

Long & McQ's by 606 (2.00 / 0) #32 Tue Jun 14, 2005 at 11:53:22 PM EST
While you're out looking to rent gear, ask them how much it is to rent two DJ-quality turntables and a three-channel DJ mixer... but don't rent them yet. There are two reasons for this: 1. I'm a little rusty and want to brush up on my skills before committing to anything (yes I know I've barely any time...) and 2. I'm sure I haven't donated enough to cover the cost of such a rental. Also, 3., I don't know if anyone likes Trance music.

Send me an e-mail if you have any further info.

Has Old Oak come to his senses now?

I must recuse myself from HS2005.

I am very much in the "drunk and very unhappy about this" category.

These two events are not disparate.

Which is why I shall be sending you a personal email about this on the morrow, with much heartfelt apologies.

Right I've just re-written this grand finale paragraph about 8 times and deleted it as many.

Which is the usual tim eto post.

everything is under control. I'll call the toll-free a few days before I fly out to confirm everything.

And I'll tell you more about Montreal when I get back to Calgary and have a free moment to collect my thoughts, instead of spending all my time chasing after friends I haven't met in a city I don't know.

But actually, Montreal is damn good. Did you know you can go drinking here on a Wednesday night and most of the clubs are packed? Kul wahad!
