Print Story Great Moments in "The Phantom Menace"
Moment 2

A communications disruption can only mean one thing. Invasion.

               AMIDALA
We must continue to rely on
          negotiation.

               BIBBLE
          Negotiation? We've lost all
          communications! And where are
          the Chancellor's Ambassadors?
How can we negotiate? We must
          prepare to defend ourselves.

               PANAKA
          This is a dangerous situation,
          Your Highness. Our security
          volunteers will be no match
          against a battle-hardened
          Federation army.

               AMIDALA
I will not condone a course of
action that will lead us to war.

Thank you in advance, sir by MohammedNiyalSayeed (4.00 / 1) #1 Mon Mar 21, 2005 at 02:40:38 AM EST

For single-handedly shifting the Star Wars troll paradigm with such a simple and elegant posting strategy. I applaud you.

You can build the most elegant fountain in the world, but eventually a winged rat will be using it as a drinking bowl.

that a Natalie Portman-less screenshot of a scene with Natalie Portman can be said to represent the "greatness" of said scene.

how can you be sure? by martingale (2.00 / 0) #15 Mon Mar 21, 2005 at 08:20:21 PM EST
How can you be sure it's really Natalie Portman, though, and not her body double disguised as the voice of Queen Amydala?

How do you "battle harden" droids? by Rogerborg (4.00 / 1) #4 Mon Mar 21, 2005 at 03:08:20 AM EST
Or hadn't Lucas decided what he was going to superimpose on the screen yet?  I guess it was better than the army of My Little Ponies that appeared in the early drafts.

have an annealing effect on droid armor. If the droid survives, it will have a much stronger carapace than it had before.

some crazy evolutionary-talk! Everyone knows that battle hardened droids came fully formed out of the factory 5000 years ago.

battle harden by garlic (2.00 / 0) #7 Mon Mar 21, 2005 at 03:18:19 AM EST
A battle bot is battle hardened. A robotic arm at a car company is not.

sci fi has many easier to ridicule premises. I liked the light sabre vs a plane of laser bolts idea in the last tps12 star wars diary.

Let me re-phrase by Rogerborg (3.50 / 2) #9 Mon Mar 21, 2005 at 03:28:11 AM EST
How do you "battle harden" battle droids?  Don't they come with that built in, or are they modified Aibos?  Could this be a stark warning to all those who would perform upgrades on their Furbys?

Some options by yicky yacky (2.00 / 0) #13 Mon Mar 21, 2005 at 05:50:26 AM EST
  • Perhaps it refers to their state of ... arousal. This may indeed be why Natalie was so concerned.
  • Give them to a bunch of Essex blokes with a welder. Of course, the servos would pop out after the first cornering manouevre, but dat's easiwee fixaboo innit?
  • ObNixGeek: chmod the firmware.

The Nabooians are racists, and computer illiterate by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #12 Mon Mar 21, 2005 at 04:48:39 AM EST
The Trade Federation mentioned "beta hardened" droids, and the Nabooians figured they couldn't pronounce "l".

You know, where Obiwan and Anakin entertain Amidala with their light-saber tricks?
