Cheeze Whiz for the soul...

  • I ordered up a Soup Cookbook, for some reason, so thusly will I be baking up some soup in the near future. I've made some potatoe soup in the past (which was quite yummy, bye the by) so it's not like I'm a total soup newbie, although I think a mentally handicapped monkey could make potatoe soup, but I'm generally not one for following recipe directions and making stuff come out like it outta, so I'm looking forward to the challenge. I'm throwing down the gauntlet! I'm taking the challenge! I may even take some photo's of the whole process to document here if the muse hits me.
  • Damn damn damn nethack to hell. While cleaning up my hard-drive yesterday I stumbled across an older version of nethack and made the mistake of firing it up. It turns out that Tyr is counting on my to risk my life to get the Omelette of Yendor and whatnot, so, well, what the hell am I supposed to do, if the bastard is counting on me I can't let him down. Thus far I've been having fun playing some practice rounds, throwing potions at my pet and doing whaky stuff like that. Seriously, I hope Tyr is just kidding about counting on me to be The One, cause it's quite the longshot.
  • I set a new record on the faux bike this morning!! I'm a machine.
  • Right. I'm gonna cram a Hammy the Sammy down my piehole for lunch today, along with a Peanut butter bagel. That outta do it.
  • Work has actually been about half interesting this week, for a change. Well, truth be told, the fact that I'm actually even doing any work is a change in itself, but I'm having a good time doing so which makes the days go by a little quicker and all that.
  • Dorian decides to change his evil ways and stabs the magic picture which has the effect of killing himself. Bwuahahahahahah.

  • All of the above.

  • Bob, didn't you get the memo? by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #2 Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 04:25:53 AM EST
We're doing depressing, mournful diaries today, to mark the start of Lent.

Oh! That's right! Blame the rat! [nt] by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #3 Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 04:33:38 AM EST

    No by Bob Abooey (2.00 / 0) #4 Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 04:51:20 AM EST
The email address I gave for the lent memo mailing list, was bogus ( I know how those lists work, they sell your name to every spammer on the planet and the next thing you know you're getting tons of emails for cialis and viagra and horny housewives who want to have sex with the unwashed masses and bogus mortgage companies and Rolex watches for 20 clams and hot naked teen girls on webcams and whatnot), heh, so I don't get the memos.

    Warmest regards,

You don't... have... to drive my jeep cherokee by ObviousTroll (4.00 / 1) #5 Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 04:56:34 AM EST
You don't have to drive my jeep cherokeyeeeeee

Soup is easy, one of my favs is called "meatball soup" which uses the aforementioned meatballs plus cabbage plus a tomato broth.

Don't feel bad about the Yendor thing. About a week ago some guy named Derek Cain stated pestering me about stopping Diablo and his brothers again. Nag, nag, nag.

    I've never played that by Bob Abooey (2.00 / 0) #10 Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 06:21:55 AM EST
Being the dirty Loonux hippie that I am I don't have to worry about playing all those cool games.

    Warmest regards,

    Ah yes. by Breaker (4.00 / 1) #6 Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 05:15:04 AM EST
Nethack.  I have lost count of the hours I put in on that damned game.  Then I downloaded the spoilers and wasted further hours of my life.

Still, I ascended a Valkyrie, a wizard and a tourist.  At which point I deleted the game and will never install it again.

For useless timewasting, I now have Diablo II.

    Right on! by Bob Abooey (2.00 / 0) #9 Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 06:18:44 AM EST
I've never ascended, but I really don't play it all that often. Plus I don't cheat, cause cheaters never prosper.

    Warmest regards,
    --Your best pal Bob

    Really, it does.

    Hey Bob by sasquatchan (2.00 / 0) #7 Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 06:08:33 AM EST
Good to see you. Hope nethack hasn't totally grabbed you and dragged you in... I have about 5 different versions (3.2.x through 3.4.3) on my hard drive, and all have various save games in various states -- starting, dire, in hell somewhere, near ascention, etc. Sometimes I just fire 'em up to see where it's at. Such a fun game.

Ya know something odd, Bob ? Had a bizzare dream about going back to Pgh to see family or something (hey, we were going to PGH, ok?) and we got an invitation to your wedding, and so went from PGH to your wedding. Was quite strange. No wedding cake, but a bowl of candy bars, and your bride encouraging us to have a snickers. So, when you tie the knot, be sure to send us an invite, m'kay ? Can't remember exactly what you looked like, but I seem to recall dark hair with hilighted spiked bangs. Bride was petite and cute.

    Sure by Bob Abooey (4.00 / 1) #8 Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 06:17:04 AM EST
I'll send you an invite. That's just one more gift for us!!!!! Bwuahahahhaha!!

Snikcers eh? Well, I'm more of a Hershey's Chocolate kinda guy, when I do indulge, but maybe my wife to be put the hammer down and declared it was snickers or no sex for a month, or some such thing.

rere: I just got killed on level 10 in the Gnomish Mines by a magnum, or some such thing. Had a right good start too, -4 AC, level 9, etc etc. I think I screwed up when I went to make an offering and #prayed instead of #offer and Try got all pissy with me and the like.

Alas! back to the drawing board.

    Warmest regards,
    --Your best pal Bob

    Luck by sasquatchan (2.00 / 0) #12 Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 07:19:22 AM EST
luck is the key to nethack. Having positive luck -- why you hit the mines for the luckstone (and guaranteed altar).. Pissed off god I think means you've also lost some luck -- it's been a long time since I've read the source or the spoilers. But I will say reading the source is a very good exercise for any programmer..

Hey, no sex for a month or a snickers is an easy choice to make. I think Ahnold made a harder one. Beats my why she was insistant on taking one, but whatever.. Heck, still not sure how I knew it was your wedding, but they're dreams, ya know ?

    Crap by Bob Abooey (2.00 / 0) #13 Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 08:23:23 AM EST
Well, that figures, I just ate my dog and I'm pretty sure that queers all the luck I had built up with offerings and whatnot. I swear, I offered up a gazillion things and ol Tyr just refused to give me the Beowoulf sword.

rere: What's this luck stone that you're talking about?? I know not of that.

    Warmest regards,
    --Your best pal Bob

The phantom spoiler strikes again. The trouble is, memorizing all these spoiler files deprives one of valuable Nethacking time.
