Not me but but SLD as her flight to Venezuela was cancelled by Air Frog. So she won't go until Tuesday morning. So my job was to cheer her up on Sunday which acheived by going shoe shopping with her and taking her to cinema. As compensation by the airline, she gets to stay at the Holiday Inn at Heathrow tonight and so do I ;).

Poll: how far will England get in the world cup?

Another poorish game with Beckham geting sent off. Still at least we've qualified for the World Cup despite playing crap in the last few games. Not at all confident we'll get very far in this WC under Sven who is a competent but unispiring manager. I expect it'll all be hyped up again in June as per usual in the media.

A History Of Violence

Saw this last night with SLD, was good in parts and quite realistic but then got spoiled by OTT Hollywood scenes. It felt between two stools, trying to be a bit noirish but also having a feel of a block buster. Felt that Aragorn played the part of the reformed killer very well.

Agreed re Sven. by Alice Pulley (4.00 / 3) #1 Mon Oct 10, 2005 at 02:26:32 AM EST
He is/was a safe pair of hands, steadied the ship when it was badly needed but he really doesn't seem capable of taking the team on another level - in fact, the team seems to have lost the confidence they had built up due to their record in competitive games.

I read a telling interview with Robbie Fowler about the Brazil game in last world cup. At half time, the team needed a boot up the arse, to get at Brazil and play at a fast tempo as Brazil were beatable. Sven said about 2 words in the whole half-time interval.

Quarter finals if we're lucky.

That's why we will lose against the top drawer teams. No plan B nor ways of motivating the players when things don't work out.

It's still a year away, hopefully we can regain whatever it is we've lost by then.

It's political correctness gone mad!

This footing-ball thing by Rogerborg (4.00 / 2) #5 Mon Oct 10, 2005 at 04:53:32 AM EST
I know us Scotch-men know little of it, but I was led to believe that it was primarily the eleven chaps on the field chasing the little ball around who had the major effect on the result.  Could it be that there is no turd-polisher in Christendom who can produce the diamonds that you need to win an international competition?

Also, how big are SLD's boots?  Could you describe them for us in detail, using diagrams where necessary?

Depends on the turds by jump the ladder (2.00 / 0) #6 Mon Oct 10, 2005 at 04:56:46 AM EST
England has higher quality shits like David Beckham compared to poo that is the current Jockish team.

The turd polisher, by ambrosen (4.00 / 1) #7 Mon Oct 10, 2005 at 04:59:43 AM EST
just needs to apply a little more pressure and temperature, and also a little charcoaling and drying technique, then they should get the required diamonds.

Third base, but it'll pass out soon thereafter and not remember anything the next day.

The weird mix of realism and silly violence made a lot more sense to me when I found out it was a comic book conversion.

It depends. by Tonatiuh (2.00 / 0) #12 Thu Oct 13, 2005 at 05:13:58 PM EST
Assuming England is seeded top of a group you will avoid Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Netherlands and perhaps Mexico or Portugal.

So that leaves Spain, France, Paraguay, US, Japan and others.

England's group could be

Which would be very difficult,

or could be
Trinidad & Tobago

which should be a field day.
