How many double land-locked countries are there in the world?

[Meaning land-locked countries that are surrounded only by other land-locked countries.]

No googling, you cheating bastards.

Bonus points for posting the details.

The family's doing well. Baby's as cute as can be.

Also, I thought of one more double landlocked country: Uzbekistan. I keep forgetting that it's a country now.

Uzbekistan is not landlocked by The Jews (3.00 / 0) #5 Sun Jun 20, 2004 at 04:54:39 PM EST
It borders the Aral Sea in the west (I did have to google for that).

On the other hand, Afghanistan borders Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, both of which are landlocked.

Africa has some landlocked countries too, not sure about Europe.

Neither of which are landlocked.

Africa has no *double* landlocked countries.

Maritime claims - as described in UNCLOS 1982 (see Notes and Definitions): none (doubly landlocked)

If we go by your standard, then Liechtenstein is also incorrect, since the Rhine leads to the sea.

These are the only two doubly land-locked ones.

Time to update my definition of "landlocked". So I guess it's landlocked only if it can't get out to free waters without going down some really narrow rivers?

I thought it had something to do with touching a large body of water.

The Aral Sea is isolated. by ti dave (3.00 / 0) #13 Mon Jun 21, 2004 at 03:50:59 AM EST
The Rhine, along the Swiss border with .li, is too small for cargo ships.
In either case, there won't be any trade conducted via those routes.
