OK, why was no one mentioned the upcoming birthday?

Yesterday I heard that Richie Hawtin was going to be playing at some club in Hollywood. So off I went.

I found a nice parking space and wandered around, but they hadn't started yet so I went to get a slice of "New York Style" pizza (an experience, I'm sure, roughly equivalent to being in New York and ordering a "California Style" burrito.)

Anyway, I get into the club, say hi to some people from the mailing list. It's a pretty nice club, excellent lighting system and a big balcony. Only some security guy yelled that the balcony was closed off and made me come down. Unfortunate since other than the balcony there's no place to sit in this club other than atop the subwoofers.

Sound was pretty good for an indoor space, much better than the El Rey... however I still don't like indoor PA systems, something weird happens to the bass, it turns from the usual thump thump thump into a distorted BRAAAAP BRAAAAP BRAAAP and the ER-20s , having not enough attenuation in the low end, do nothing to help.

Hawtin was awesome as expected.

But afterwards my car was gone. Crap crap crap! Seems there was a "no parking after 10" sign that I missed and they towed it.

OK, this means I have to take the bus home and deal with shit in the morning.

I walk to the bus stop just to see the right bus pulling out and I have to wait an hour for the next one. Then in the morning make a few phone calls to find out WTF my car is... then attempt to take my bike on the bus to Hollywood and then over to the the impound garage and pay through the nose there. Bleah.

On the bike front, looks like unless I come to my senses in the mext couple of months I'll be looking for a KLR650. Gear wise I'm thinking what could be cooler and/or dorkier than the safety yellow treatment?

I mentioned it the other day in the Emma Watson by georgeha (3.00 / 0) #1 Fri Jun 11, 2004 at 01:13:42 PM EST
HP III diary. The KLR is cool, but it may be an inch or so two tall for me at 5'8".

Gear color doesn't matter too much, if a cager is unobservant, you could wear florouscent pink and get hit, anecdotally.

I mostly like it for the outrageousness. by celeriac (3.00 / 0) #2 Fri Jun 11, 2004 at 01:59:39 PM EST
Also, "kill bill" might make it momentarily fashionable, even if the roadcrafter isn't as form fitting and my figure nothing like Uma Thrunan's

If you wear the same colour as the police, then you don't have a problem.

They've been legal over here for nearly 2 years. All it does is give us Brits a chance to laugh at you wacky Yanks with your funny laws.

Land of the free indeed.
