Had an excellent time in Europe (Britain, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy). In general, things worked out really well which I think is somewhat surprising having done all the planning ourselves. We got back on Friday morning. Shortly I'll get some photos uploaded, then I'll start writing up my diary.
I picked up my photos on Sunday. Film, not digital. My SLR camera takes much better photos than my crappy digital camera ever has. By Sunday evening they had fingerprints on them from my fiancée's relatives. I hate that.
Work
Not doing much. I've just finished code reviewing some particularly nasty code written by people who have apparently never seen the coding standard. While I was away, an email went around reminding everyone of our internet usage policy. I'd never paid much attention to it before. The policy is:
- Personal email is ok as long as it is not excessive (where "excessive" is undefined).
- No personal web usage is allowed.
Car
Despite instructing my mum to run my car while I was away, the battery was flat by the time I got home. I put a battery charger on it, but it could not be saved and I had to buy a new one. Damn thing died only a few days after the warranty ran out.
ISP
iinet were giving me the shits yesterday. I let my account expire while on holiday, then had it reactivated after I got back. I also changed plans. The new plan is $19.95 per month, so that should have been my internet bill.
First they tried to charge me $27.50 for the month I was away, and $40 for the new plan. Then they gave me a $15 "good-will gesture" so I only had to pay $12.50 for the unused month. Then somehow my bill changed to $32.81. I'm not sure how. Eventually it was all sorted out, and I've been left with a single bill for $19.95. Good.
Other
Haven't done much of interest since I got back. Two lightbulbs in my house have blown, which is unusual for a 5 day period. Tonight I'll finally get to see Kill Bill 2. Should be good.
