Woops. Stop. Get the mop.

So, I took the wife and kids up to our mountain retreat for easter. Global Warming has taken its toll on Norway's long winters on the southwest coast, of course, but there's still plenty of snow up in the mountains at this time of year. We spent a day or two skiing, a day visiting, and a couple of days hunched over the toilet -- seems my youngest picked up the stomack flu bug just before we left, and by the time we returned, we had nearly all shared it's joys. Ah, family outings.

So, the BrainGate got approved by the FDA today. The first real implant on the cortex to (eventually) render paraplegics to use their hands, and perhaps other limbs. Sounds promising, and the clinical trials can now begin.

Kos asked "Why is Kerry running?" in a recent article, and this comment pretty well sums it up, I think. I'd vote the comment to the front page.

America, at least the America my ancestors crossed an ocean to come to when many of the ships were lost at sea, that the guy who took the sword at Trenton later died killed by a bear in 1795 in the howling wilderness of central Pennsylavania where he went to re-start his life after losing his farm and having all his pay for 8 years' service be "not worth a Continental", that the guy who ran 22 miles through the hot Pennsylvania countryside to give the last reinforcement to the 18th Maine on Little Round Top and thereby win the Civil War, that I got raised to believe it was a citizen's privilege to serve as "payment for the benefits", that my other ancestors buried at Arlington died for, is NOT the country these Rethuglican scum say it is. (I won't call them Republicans; my Republican Party-founding ancestors are spinning in their graves that these unreconstructed fifth-generation Confederate traitors call themselves "Republicans.")

Looks like the Center-Right is set to dominate in the European Parliament. When it's all over, there may be as many as 50 unattached ministers. Now that's a melting pot. The liberals among that group will almost certainly have to be wooed to make a coalition. Up with environmentalism -- even though only Germany managed to get a Kyoto Carbon plan in on time last week. Meh.

Amen on your family trip.

Amen, kinda sorta, I think? on the chip story (which I have since linked to on wetmachine; thanks).

And Amen, Amen, Amen to that Kos comment. God have mercy on our republic. Amen.

She has effectively checked out. She's an un-person of her own making. So it falls to me.--ad hoc (in the hole)

Write up the Brain chip as an article. You could probably plug your book...
