I am not a morning person. I don't believe there is such a thing. Children can do it, they need less sleep. Ditto for old timers. For most of your life, your body wants 8ish hours a night. I, however, can't seem to convince my body to go to bed any earlier than 1 or 2. This is not enough sleep on weekdays. So I tend to take a loooong afternoon siesta. This is really going to be the only way to go once the heat really sets in (upper 80's yesterday and today, in a month we'll probably be seeing triple digits). So, in an effort to go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight (probably won't happen and I'll be a zombie on the 'morrow), I am *not* going to sleep for three hours this afternoon.
Certainly this puts a damper on my 'sit in the sun every afternoon until skin cancer develops' master plan. Tis not an issue today, my chestal and shoulderal areas are a wee bit tender from the puny amount of sun I got yesterday. Hopefully with a day off I'll be back at it.
Chess! There must be chess players here on HuSi. You can't all be a bunch of Go-bangers, right? And what fun, I ask you, is chess played against a machine. So, if you like online chess and can't stand places such as yahoo, playsite, ad nauseum, come play with me at ICC. Yes, it is something like $50 a year. However they mirror all the big tournaments world-wide with commentary. Of course, all that goes way over my head. I'm happy enough to pay the $50 to get away from the assholes on yahoo, as well as yahoo's tendency to only add one in three of my games to my history or rating. Oh you whimsical Yahoo you!
I, like any good citizen, have made my mp3's available to two or three friends (no p2p euphamism, it really is two people). Share and share alike. They've been leeching from me for a week straight. No biggie, their bandwidth gets constricted whenever I'm actually doing something online. (I believe you linux hippies call it 'traffic control' or something.) K, all well and good so far. But now they're requesting that I go out on the networks to find songs for them. They want me to download these for them, so they can grab them easy-peasy from me, no meddlesome half-tracks for them! Maybe I should just disable their accounts for a day or two, claim some screw-up or something. They're more than likely to believe this as I haven't had an uptime of more than a week in a looong time.
As for Safari and actually getting around to throwing up a web page.... Well, my only motivation for this was so I wouldn't have to give out full shell accounts (didn't want to open up and ftp server either), but seems I rationalized my way over that hump. Hopefully they don't go poking around for fun on my machine...
Science Fiction content? Oh, I just reread Across Realtime by Vernor Vinge. Apparently I should pick up something by him called "True Names", maybe next time I'm at the store. Oh well, back to chess.
Final thought for the day: I'ma turrible speeler, butt cant be botha'd to feex eet.
