How come the RSS feeds generated from HuSi diaries don't contain dates?

Another question is why they don't allow you to view the comments via the RSS feed but let's tackle this one at a time.

Wha...? by TheophileEscargot (3.00 / 0) #1 Mon Mar 08, 2004 at 09:46:40 AM EST
One of the first things there seems to be a <dc:date>2004-03-08T22:42:08Z</dc:date> thing.

Plus Scoop URLs all contain the date anyway. Not that XML fanboys care about data integrity or normal forms or anything that might people actual working programmers life any easier ;-)

Nice to see you here BTW.

Each entry should have a date by Carnage4Life (3.00 / 0) #2 Mon Mar 08, 2004 at 11:29:21 AM EST
A single date at the root of the feed isn't that useful. At best it tells me the date of the newest item in the feed not the date of each of the posts which I need to make any sense of the stuff in the feed.

Hello! by hulver (3.00 / 0) #3 Mon Mar 08, 2004 at 05:48:46 PM EST
Apparently the module I'm using doesn't support a date against each item.

I'll look into it further.

Comments? Do you mean a link to the comments? There is no way I'm including all the comments in the feed, it's large enough as it is.

My priority is to support last modified date requests at the moment, does your reader do that?

IE. Send an If-Modified header when requesting the feed?

There are a number of options for comments. There are namespaced extensions that show number of comments, provide a link to comments, provide a way to post a comment from an aggregator or provide a way to view comments in the aggregator. Most of them are described in this post from Chris Sells blog

My reader sends If-Modified-Since and If-None-Match which a lot of readers do these days.

I was considering adding Atom support as well (parsing and publishing), as some blogs seem to be using that now.

The spec doesn't appear to be finished though, I don't want to code against a moving target.

Any thoughts?

On Atom by Carnage4Life (3.00 / 0) #9 Tue Mar 09, 2004 at 01:29:04 PM EST
The spec is a moving target and besides geek cred there isn't any reason for a site to provide a syndication feed in more than one format.
