It's from the company I used to work for. The logo is apparently photoshopped, and not too carefully to be honest. Feel free to substitute your own, and do a better job than that.

Capitalism by ucblockhead (3.00 / 0) #1 Thu Mar 18, 2004 at 09:19:57 AM EST
You know...I was thinking of doing that, and then I realized that as an American working for Sony, that was a bit hypocritical.

I don't think Sony outsources jobs to America in order to save a couple of yens. So if even hypocritical, it's only a bit.

Well...in a sense it does, but only because it's cheaper to make products for the American market in America1. But my particular group is writing software for the entire company directly under the direction of Japan.

On SONY's cheaper-to-make-here location strategy by tmoertel (3.00 / 0) #4 Thu Mar 18, 2004 at 11:33:23 AM EST
According to a (great) local documentary, "Things We've Made", SONY manufactures televisions in factory located near Pittsburgh. Some of these televisions contain a 110-pound glass picture tube. The picture tube is manufactured by a company called American Video Glass, which just so happens to be a division of SONY. It also just so happens to be located next door to the television factory. Because of this clever arrangement, the shipping cost for this heavy, massive, and fragile part is virtually zero.

Location, location, location.

Not just Sony by ucblockhead (3.00 / 0) #5 Thu Mar 18, 2004 at 12:50:09 PM EST
It's also why Honda makes cars in the US.
