Went to view a house yesterday. It had potential.

More potential than we have budget though. Guide price is €280k. Very handy for public transport, not in utterly dodgy area. Nice big living room. But. The kitchen needed putting in a skip, all the wiring needed redoing, there's been a botched roof repair byt the looks of the polyfila on the ceiling and the only improvement made by the previous (elderly) owner was a gas boiler that has taken a significant chunk out of the  main bedroom. If I had a significant budget (well, I'd buy something else) I'd put an extension on the back with patio doors making the most of the south facing aspect, put a kitchen/dining room in that and turn the old kitchen into an office. Seeing another place this evening.

Camera? by Dr H0ffm4n (3.00 / 0) #1 Tue Mar 16, 2004 at 12:50:02 AM EST
I took a digital camera round while looking at houses. Although you tend to know the house you want, it's useful to look at pics when you get home. You can also post pix here too.

Did that. by Merekat (3.00 / 0) #3 Tue Mar 16, 2004 at 01:58:35 AM EST
Sort of. Just a camera phone but enough to keep a reminder of things that were a bit dodgy lest time dull the initial impressions. Like the fusebox:

that's not really dodgy. It would be more accurate to say that's a total fucking nightmare. Is mounting the fuse box over wallpaper even legal? What country is this? If the rest of the house has been looked after as well as the electric installations it will probably fall apart any minute now.

What is it by anonimouse (3.00 / 0) #5 Tue Mar 16, 2004 at 02:30:14 AM EST
With those strange round fuses? Until I came to Ireland I'd never seen them. Why not the straight ones or circuit breakers?

Also, only 3 or 4 fuses? is this a small house? I'm a little surprised as most houses seem have at least 6 or so circuits.

And not very thoroughly wired. Nobody uses those round fuses anymore either. They are at least 30 years old, I'd guess.

Oh, the frugality. by Evil Cloaked User (3.00 / 0) #2 Tue Mar 16, 2004 at 12:55:16 AM EST
I'm guessing based on the general attitude of saving, you'll not make it to Oxegen, despite the recent additions of Massive Attack, PJ Harvey and the Kings of Leno, on top of the existing David Bowie, Chemical Brothers and, to a lesser degree, The Strokes and The Darkness?

Also, regarding the possible visit, a contractor we've gotten in to analyse a fews aspects of the company is big time in favour of my idea, so that trip to the Dublin office will almost certainly happen at some point.

And stop taunting me. Though I have my Divine Comedy ticket so I'm happy.
