Today the guys at work brought in my new scanner that they had bought in
America for me. It only works in Windows, so this evening I decided I
would install Windows 98 on my machine so I could try it out.
- First I installed Windows, then deleted the MBR on the Windows drive while attempting to add it to the grub boot menu.
- Secondly I installed Windows, then went to boot into Linux to copy some drivers across. Windows had deleted the MBR on the Linux harddrive during the installation.
- Unable to find my grub rescue CD, I tried the Debian rescue CD, but got a FATAL: kernel too old error.
- Next I connected my Linux harddrive to my P133. I didn't have grub on this machine so I tried using LILO to make my machine bootable. It didn't work, so I gave up for the evening.
- Instead I went to install grub on my P133 and check my email. However, my attempts to get LILO onto my other harddrive had resulted in LILO becoming unbootable on this machine.
- I discovered that the CDROM in the P133 no longer opens. I also discovered that I don't have a paperclip to open it manually. After finding a spare CDROM, I made the P133 boot again with the Debian rescue CD.
